![]() Astrophotography gurus out there, any tips on how to: 1. retain colour of the stars in long exposures 2. reduce noise in long exposures 3. remove the ugly skyglow through pp? Thanks in advance. |

Hi,
1) Make sure you shoot in RAW with in-camera Noise Reduction off and take dark frames after that for noise reduction during post processing. Check out the software website I listed below for instruction on how to do proper and good noise reduction for Astrophotography. 2) You can try to use a Light Pollution Filter (LPR) to reduce the effect of light polution, but good one are quite expensive. 3) Use image processing software design for Astrophotography to do the initial processing (or image calibration). Below are the links to 2 free Astrophotography image processing software... they also contains lots of useful informations: 1) Deep Sky Stacker 2) IRIS Anyway, I'm still learning image processing for Astrophotography myself. To get more specific advice, you can visit SingAstro forum as there are some really good and experience local Astrophotographer there... ![]() Hope it's helps. Have a nice day. |

Hi, do you think it's possible to use stacker on one image? I mean you only took one image, and it's grainy, etc. And from this single imag you want to stack it.

Dude, no. A simple stacking method is just averaging pixel values. Averaging N number of an identical pixel value gives you that same pixel value.

M39 again, this time playing with the star filter when post processing.
![]() Dudes, any suggestions on how to reduce colour noise? The noise levels are terrible after pp. Last edited by ArchRival; 7th September 2008 at 11:25 AM. |
