Finally, the day to break the silence

Hmm, LBCAST sensors ... I wonder which wafer fab is handling the initial production stage. *tsk tsk*

Now, there is ONE LAST THING they haven't announced ... a ala D2 era CAM **** anyone

So, putting 4 and 4 together to get 6:-

We now have
1) The D2H "leak" giving us the pictures of the new camera, lenses and flash but no specs.
2) This new LBCAST internally developed sensor which kinda sorta states that its a 4MP design shooting up to 8fps.

So, is it hard to imagine the following?

Nikon D2H
4MP Nikon-developed LBCAST CMOS sensor
8fps (or better, some forummer in DPReview put it at 8.5fps)
Huge image buffer (i read something like 21 NEFs or 40 JPEGs)
Nikon/Lexar Write-Accelerated technology for faster clearance of buffer and transfer to CF cards
New Multi-CAM xxxx module supporting 11 AF sensor points - fastest AF module ever for Nikon
Auto-WB feature with external sensor
Newly designed pentaprism providing 100% viewfinder coverage
Newly designed (read: smaller) reflex mirror housing and shutter mechanisms (ala Canon 10D)
Wireless transmission and control system via optional add-on module.

Only a few more days till July 22nd - see if my imagination is correct.

All wrong I'm afraid.

Nikon have stolen a leaf out of Canon's book and all this is just a smokescreen. After all, if you think about it, Nikon managed to keep the D2h completely quiet until about a week ago, and suddenly there seems to be information floating about all over the place. Why call this massive invite for the 22nd and then leak information?

Because it's disinformation!

There is no D2h. What will be introduced is instead the D2x that no one is talking about.

Of course, I happen to know the specs of this very hush hush camera. Since I'm evidently in as privileged a position as about 300 Dpreview forum users (and quite a few CSers) who seem to have inside information from Nikon.

The D2x will be announced this July 22nd and boast a 22mp image sensor (hence the release date you see). It will have a 7 frame buffer and sport a new technological innovation that allows the camera to take pictures by itself. The WiFi rumours are right, in so far as the camera is WiFi capable, but the reason for this is not for transmitting pictures but for controlling the camera from the supercomputer that is required to operate it. Battery life is rated at 500 shots per battery charge for the camera, or 5 shots if the battery is used to power the supercomputer (not supplied). Fortunately Nikon have also developed a technology to transfer energy via WiFi so you can connect the rig up to a generator to obtain virtually limitless power.

I wouldn't go all excited though. The D2x will be made commercially available only in late 2003. All those privileged users with inside information will be allowed to test the camera from the end of July however. Pricing is expected to be about US$12,995 excluding the optional supercomputer, which checks in at US$22,995. If you purchase the optional supercomputer the WiFi module comes free. Alternatively purchase the pro kit (camera, supercomputer, portable generator and a two year's supply of diesel) for US$34,995 and get the WiFi module free.

Start saving. The future is just around the corner.

And then there will be a D100x, with a magnesium water-proof body AND a build-in auto ultrasonic dust cleaning mechanism, suggested RRP US$999.

How come no one's picked up on that based on this, the D3x will be released in two years time?
