you are suppose to use black or white stockings, not nude color.

be careful about this anyway, your mum may think you have a fetish of collecting woman undies.

Also different brand of stockings have different level of softness, Nikon soft 1, nikon soft 2, etc. Glad that it's not a lost trick ............. yet

using a soft filter or stocking gives different results. the same as applying soft during the printing stage. the softness is different.

LoL It was indeed nude auntie stocking
My bad My bad
Guess have to phone my gf to help as mom dun have those hip black or white stocking.

Btw, read somewhere that applying a thin film of vaseline also help to soften the image.
What's the diff between:
1) Using stocking. (black or white stocking)
2) Using vaseline. (grease or cooking oil can ah?)

Thanks for all the input from all the shifu for us newbie to try out the old school way in our free time!

Cheers!!!

the effect of both are totally different, you need to try it out see which is to your liking.
anyway...
Stocking: overall effect.
Vaseline: can applied on only selected areas. (on a filter, not the lens itself)

black stocking with hold in the center will also give nice vignetting
