either the tamron or the sigma 18-200 will give you a AIO solution, albeit with some compromises on IQ especially at the long end. you may want to consider the sigma version because the OS will help at the long end. i had the sigma before i sold it off as i decided i didn't mind carrying/swapping multiple lenses during my travels in search of better IQ.
the 18-200 range will capture everything fairly well, but not excellently well. there are bound to be some pincushion/barrel distortions. p.s. both lenses are for APS-C cameras.

Hi there, have been using the tamron 18 250 f/3.5-6.3 XI Di-II LD! erm picture quality wise this lens rocks mad! as for the 18 200 you might wanna consider the sigma counter part which come with the OS. else, as far as review are concerned, the 18 250 is superior than the earlier two. you might wanna check this lens out.

Thks for the advice.
Seems like the price between the 2 lens is not that difference... If it is not of too much trouble, possible to show or mail me some photos taken with your 18 250?

but sigma 18-200 OS is better than both coz of OS (Optical Stabilization) also, might as well wait for tamron18-270 VC (vibration compensation). take note: super zoom lens mostly sacrifice IQ (image quality), even canon 28-300IS (image stabilization) is not that sharp compared to fixed aperture 3x zoom lenses like canon 24-70mm f/2.8 or canon 70-200mm f/4 IS. |

haha the OS for sigma = Optical Stabilizer, its the canon equivalent of image stabilizer. since the lens belongs to the super zoom category covering up to 200mm, while at the longer end the slightest hand shake can cause the image to be blurred. therefore its always good to have some form of optical stabilizer. however, do the the stabilizer is good to have but not a must have. in the past, many photographer still shoot award winning shots without such aid. My 2 cents.

i've tried the sigma 18-200 both with and without OS. at the 200 end VERY VERY difficult to get good (keeper) shots indoors without flash. If the criteria is bring for holiday, suggest strongly you get a OS/VC/IS version as it will help a great deal indoors where light is limited (aperture 6.3 means you need long shutter times)

Does that mean that tamron 18-200 and 18-250 don't come with the Optical Stabilization or
vibration compensation features right?

Hi, I have the lens too. Are you a nikon or Canon user?
As per my short review in the thread below: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=378116 Do you find the zooming tend to be sticky in certain ranges, in the mid range section? I just wanted to verify that I did not get a lemon. Thanks. |

Frankly speaking i too found that the zooming is a bit tight but ok for me. According to my friend (he is a nikon user) it is normal for new lens. I got a chance to play around with my friend nikon 18-200mm lens and he show that his lens zooming is so loose that it actually extends slowly when u hold it facing down. He explained it is common for heavy lens.. (forgot the term for it) Are u a canon or nikon user? |
