My dad's been on Nikon since F from 1965 till now. That includes all advice, support, instruction, etc. Raised since young using the F2 and FM2.

Default borned and bred on the FM

hi brothers...

i trained hard to attain my current level 10 sheng gong (i know some moderators or fanatics are some level 100...) with a humble FM2 and a standard zoom lens.

love my retro FM2 most! wow...classic chrome... shiok...

hey, this is a thread for NIKONIANS to share their views and thoughts about why we choose NIKON...

well, this is why i chose NIKON and any NIKON moderators or fanatical NIKONIANs will understand THAT FEELING OF WINDING to the NEXT FILM!!!!

During the time I bought my first Nikon body - a used FE, Canon is still on the FD mount. Didn't quite fancy AE1 series, T series etc. Besides, Nikon was more "in" back then.

When EOS series came out, general opinion was that they were plasticky (helped in part by things like EOS 888 and similar).

When I bought my 1st digital camera, the Coolpix 950 was among the best 2mp back then.

Shortly after that I invested in a SB28 and a couple more lenses.

Then I upgraded to F100. And few more lenses.

By then, too expensive to switch systems.

CK

Friend had a nice FE and 55mm macro for sale 23 years ago......since then using Nikon. And cause I expanded with many lenses thereafter became too expensive to switch, and only since last year bought a used AF camera (which I used once, don't reall ylike it :-)......), also to me all the cameras are the same anyway........who cares.......

was thinking whether to get a Canon T90 or a Nikon F801. Couldn't find a T90 at my budget so settled for the 801. (i like heavy gear.)

well i'm only a nikon user for 4 months, my cp5700.

b4 that i had a couple of months (but not as frequent as with my nikon) with my bro's eos300. yeah heaps difference, one film one digital. but still managed to learn the basics of focus, dof and aperture/shutter settings from that cam (and my bro)

so for me i can still "jump ship" becos probably when/if i get a next cam, it'll be dSLR. but getting worried about not having full frame (i dunno how i'm gonna justify buying a $800 20mm prime and getting 30mm on it!!!)

okok let me answer the question. i did not choose nikon. i chose the cp5700. IF canon released something like the cp5700 (in terms of the zoom, looks, feel, quality) i might have bought canon.

so the "which brand is better" is still softly lingering at the back of my head, but since i'm not gonna make any purchase for a while, i've decided not to address it.

Back in the dark ages of the mid 70s I chose Nikon because of the overall system and its usefullness with a particular emphasis on build quality. Compared to what I'd been using (Zenit/Practika SLR's) Nikon had shutter designs that didn't behave like a cell door being slammed in anger.

First SLR EOS 500---> EOS 300+EOS50E ---> EOS 3 with PB-E2 ---> Giving Up Photography ---> 2 Years ---> Start again with Nikon...why? I dunno maybe just Novelty want to try something different then fall in love with it.

I started with Canon AE-1 in the early 80s, then switched to Nikon after Canon changed its lens mount to EF. Without backward compatibility, they forced me to ditch all my lenses.

That's the exact reason why I bought into Nikon after I took up photography again after so many years. Still have the AE-1 with the 50 mm lens. Sold the zoom. Now I have the full range of Nikon : 2 bodies, lens covering from 18mm to 400mm. Excellent build quality, good resale value and sharp, contrasty lens.

Y Nikon???Becoz they also make manual cameras!!They are into digital stuff, but still retain some aspects of the past. They never forgot their roots. That I respect.
