Personally I feel that it appeals more to the chinese dialect speaking people who are more attune to a bombastic way of communication and littering their prose with flowery expressions. There's one part when the eldest son came home and the mum was asking her whether he has eaten. He said he did. Being old and forgetful, she turned aorund a second later to ask him the same question again. This happened many times until the son relented and told her "no he hasn't" eaten and the story goes on. It's a normal everyday phrase that every parent will ask and probably most of us answer it Everyday. In the movie it uses one element in humor guideline in that scene (there are a couple of standard guide lines in humor much like the rules of the third in photography, leading lines ...etc ) to create the ridiculous effort to the everyday scene; and if the patrons can relate, they will find it funny, if not, it's below passing grade.
that's the problem with his directions .... if one can relate to the scenes in the movie as in our real life, then why bother to pay to watch them?.... if we look around us, it's happening right in front of us and we should enjoy our own shows in our life ...
    always the Light, .... always.

so tell us, which scene do you like or dislike in the movie. a short description ( like what I have done ) would be great.

And Mr Canonised ... you obviously do not know wht element was used in that scene ... do you? =P

seem like everybody is commenting about the storyline....how come nobody talk about the quality of the image/film?..from what i saw in cinema...it looked super grainy...after 10 long years, seem that there's still no improvement, it's time for HD quality format....

You give 1.5 stars and you say "pretty nice"? heheh If so you should be giving at least 3 to 3.6 stars heheh. I think this is very much a niche market movie. You either get it as it related personally to you or it don't and you treat it more like a movie that shows you a "social" you normally don't mix with.

As for the quality of the movie...like most typical asian movie...shoe string budget. You can't expect to have HD and all that production stuff. Hard to justify the cost if the takings are low even when you factor in VCD and DVD to come very soon on the heel of this movie ending it's run in the cinema.

yup...really no budget...that's y need so many sponsors...n market too small too...if jack neo n raintree can't even improve, there will be no hope for the smaller movie production house in singapore. Movie production in Hongkong is way ahead of singapore, take a look at yesasia.com..you will realize that almost all recent HK movie came out in blu ray format. singapore really cannot fight......

aiyo its nice lah. That actor henry thia dont even need to talk his lame face is enough to keep me laughing. Very localised jokes but this time round its more abt brotherhood and filial piety. The commercialised inserts makes it even more lame and funny haha. Only thing weird is mark lees wife can still accept him after he fooled around with woman, vomitted on her face and shouted at that i find it unacceptable

agreed with sammy888, 'You either get it as it related personally to you or it don't and you treat it more like a movie that shows you a "social" you normally don't mix with.'...

if you are 30 year old and above, this movie will relate to you even more, and sometimes we need some 'little details reminder(towards our parents, siblings,$,en bloc etc)' to remind us what's happening right in front of us and so that we can truly appreciate and enjoy our own shows in our life........

    Really nice show.

It clear reflects the ugly side of the society which has been much integrated seemlessly into our life that we do not even realise it despite it repeating endlessly.

Intially thought that I will be wasting my time and money when I saw the responses in this thread. But really nice. Filled with sarcasm and jokes. As usual, Jack Neo's style.
