Scanner and Printer Advice - please HELP!

Dear all,

I am planning to buy a printer and a scanner. My budget is around 450 bucks for both.

1) the printer should be able to printer A4 size photos at a very good quality. And, should be able to print normal text at fast speed and good quality (student, so got essays to submit too!).

2) the scanner should be able to scan slides so that can print to A4 size at a very good quality too. (BTW, what is the resolution required to print a photo on A4 gloss so that it will come out satisfactorily? Is 1200x2400 dpi enough or will it be super grainy?)

I would be most grateful if you would kindly recommend me anything from your experience.

i suggest canon i850 very fast photo+ good quality
but maybe abit exp at~$350
