Thread: black patches

    Default black patches

I suspect this is the curtain of the shuttle speed problem.

I decided to try taking photos with External Flash today. I attached it to my camera and starts taking some photos. The photos look ok at 1/200 suttle speed just quite overexposed. The problem starts here.

1/400 - a quarter of the photo got this big black patch like this. Note that this is not the real photo. This is just an example what it looks like.

1/800 - the patch is even bigger.

    1/1000 - oh god... WORSE.

It seems that everything is perfect at 1/200. Does anybody know why this happen and how to fix it?

which camera and which external flash

looks like the shutter curtain and your camera cannot shoot flash pictures faster than 1/200s

some camera/flash combination can do it

eg. the Nikon D70 and go 1/500s

but with SB800 and technology can go even faster (i forgot what the technology is called)

I am using a Nikon D80. About the flash I am not quite sure but I know it is a Canon one from the school. I can't remember the model. The External Flash is not that good plus, the battery die very fast and it takes quite long to charge before the next shot.

if you've enabled FP in your D80, most prob is that the flash's unable to sync.

but in a scenario w/o flash, this doesnt happen right? if it doesnt, probably your shutter is ok
    chezburgr i can haz?

change flash or use the built in flash or set shutter speed to or less than 1/200s

Change to a Nikon speedlite to be able to use Auto FP so u can sync at speed higher than 1/250..but i'm not sure whether D80 got the Auto FP feature a not..
