This is incredible... sometimes I really think digital technology has created a monster of photos... and wonder if it is a good thing... churning out volumes of photos...
Taken from Reuter's website, with regards to Beijing Olympics opening ceremony:

"The team shot a staggering 18,000 frames during the four hours of the ceremony. Only about 850 shots made it to the “wire” — our file of photos to customers. That’s just five percent. Less than a 10th of those were selected for our web slideshow and a typical newspaper subscriber might only print one two or three shots from the selection.
...... This type of volume would have been absolutely impossible in the days before digital photography -18,000 prospective shots would have taken some 600 rolls of film, a physical and financial impossibility!"

For more about how they shot the opening ceremony, check out
    http://blogs.reuters.com/china/2008/...age-gets-made/

    Quite interesting and amazing...
They've got many great shots of the games too... now my new time-sucker are these Reuter's olympic photos and blog...

    No probs... cool stuff huh?
My fav is #2... love the colours and arrangement and vibrancy... Oooohhh... drums...
And I like how the last humble photo is such an antithesis and contrast to the other glamourous photos... yet portrays the olympic spirit in its purest form, and shows that it is not found in the stadiums alone.

Photo slideshows of Reuters' olympic photos:
    http://www.reuters.com/news/sports/2...ics/slideshows

Check out the photo of the day from Reuters. This is a cool one:
    http://blogs.reuters.com/china/2008/...-of-the-day-6/

Note that clicking on "previous post" and "next post" at the top brings you to the posts of the blog, not the previous/next photo (quite misleading).
To go to previous photo of the day, you need to click on the bottom of the wording that says "For the previous day’s chosen picture click here."
And quite stupid, can only go backwards, cannot go forward.
But you can just change the last number in the url.

I wasn't bothered to watch it on 080808 but after seeing the pics, I wanna catch the highlights... hehee...
