I've heard that the 1000D retained a lot of features in the 450D, including even Live View and Digic III processing chip. Only thing is 2 focus points lesser than the 450D. The reviewers even worry that the 1000D might eat into the 450D's market share, which i think it will.
So why pay a few hundred bucks more for the 450D? Might as well save that few hundred bucks and get the 1000D (which is 80-90% similar to the 450D) and use the money saved to buy another lens? I think the Canon 1000D and 450D is like Nikon's D40 and D40x.
