let the film days, F90x and below = amateur, no mirror lock up.

F100,F4, F5, F6= professional, have mirror lock up.

DX becomes amatuer range and FX for pros.( or the rich amatuers)

nikon will keep DX, provided that all other camera companies continue to keep their crop sensor cameras.

this way, FX cameras will have a better price point for them to get a better profit. If DX is gone, there will be a big hole and FX price will have to come down quite alot to fill the hole.

but if just 1 company decided to go all full frame and shift the FF price down 1 scale, competition kicks in and DX will soon follow the exit.

seriously doubt anyone would do that since there is alot of research money that the companys need to earn back.

you never know what technology can give you in a few short years' time.

For Nikon may develop a sensor that will enable full frame capabilities for DX lenses

Look at just a few short years ago when we discussed if Nikon will release a full frame sensor. A lot of people shoot me down for that. Now, just a few short years, Nikon not only have 1 but 2 DSLRs that have full frame capabilities

few years later DX can do high ISO like FX now....and FX can shoot in near total darkness with night vision capabilities.

doesnt matter how many FX bodies there is so long as DX lives...too many DX lens i have already

dont be like APS film camera....quitely just died off.

DX will still continue

Nikon will not kill their whole range of DX lenses just becoz of FX
And there will still be a demand for entry level or intermediate level DSLR for variety ofhobbyist, pple who dun wan heavy cameras, last but not least pple who wants the speed of a DSLR but do not need the functions of a semi pro or pro camera

Just be patient and see what nikon will offer for the range of DX

TGIF, those who wanna shop for new lenses...hurry call your fav dealer today...

DX can do high ISO like FX now, it's call the D300.

for near total darkness and night vision, i think the camera will be banned in most countries or a special license required for it. you know those pita post-911 things.

DX will be around for a long time as it can cater to a different market. there are more bird shooters today due to DX format.

there are still certain sections of photography that will benefit from DX sensor

eg. telephoto work and macro work

auto upgrade of magnification 1.5X
just need the high ISO noise of the FX sensor

just imagine, if you take the 24 MP FX sensor and reduce it to DX
you will get a 10 or 12 MP DX sensor with great hi ISO noise control for the masses

it will be another home run for nikon

Excuse me....where got 24MP FX sensor?

Even if such "hypothetical" camera exist, the high price(likely $12k++) will make it prohibitively limited to very very serious and rich amatures and Pros only. Not something that will bring any home run like the current D700 is doing.

DX noise will go down and down ... again look at D300 .. and more megapixels too

Both DX and FX will remain, each with its own niche

This certainly make marketing sense - why kill the golden goose - and many many cents for the manufacturers

Photographically it may also be sensible for pros to have two bodies: one DX, one FX, both high ISO capable, perhaps even equal, but certainly "good enough".

(Amateurs will buy anything as long as salesman convincing and money no problem and for whatever reasons)

What I don't know is the relative manufacturing cost for the design and manufacture of FX/DX lenses and sensors. If lots have been pumped/invested into these then manufacturers may be reluctant to abandon them, and so they will continue to be around.

actually nikon has long worked on another format .....its called EX....for EXpensive.....hope the recent price cut does indicate that they have decided to shelf EX and make DX and FX more affordable...

It is not dead, you be surprised.

I see something brewing in the horizon, call "D with 2 digit" in the crystal ball. It is approaching fast and furious and with exciting features somemore.......

d300 cmos + 4.5fps(6 with grip) + 21AF-points of the 51 in d3/d300 + + 100% LCD magnification and view + virtual horizon function + 3" LCD + 14bits processing with expeed.

ok, plz take all with a huge pinch of salt.

If you scrutinize my post carefully it say "D with 2 digit" not 3 digit
