Default Any limit on the number of lenses i can send to NSC for cleaning in one trip?

Hi all,

My D80 and 2 lenses' warranties will expire in a month so i'm thinking of sending them to NSC for cleaning as my naked eye cannot spot any dust and since it's FOC now (might want to sell one of the lens). May i ask if they will allow me to thrust a camera and 2 lenses at them with a Q no. or i can only send 1 at a time? Thanks in advance for sharing.

To the best of what this old brain can remember, should not be a problem.

But I'm not too sure about the FOC for lens cleaning, never tried that before.

Old brain? so self depreciating. What matters is whether the heart is still young.

Nevertheless, Thank you for your reply.

don bother if its just 1 or 2 specks of dust, u might just miss recalibrating the lens and might take u another trip to get it fixed again. dust will get in again with usage anyway.

Hmm..so u r suggesting that i should not bother till real serious dust smear them? To be honest, one of the lens was like used only 3x. U do have a point n from what i've searched, paying for cleaning is not expensive. Maybe i should leave it...Hmm... Thank you for ur advice.

i always believe in "if it's not broken, why fix it". sekali problems start cropping up after you send it in. if you really must make use of the warranty before it's over, bring the body in for a sensor cleaning which can be done while you wait. it's just a small job taking less than 5 minutes of the tech's time.

Sensor cleaning is free during warranty period. Not lens cleaning.

To remove one speck of dust in the internal lens elements, the techie have to open the lens. Then, remove the dust and in the process try to prevent more dust from entering. After which have to re-calibrate it. That take time and some effort, furthermore there is no such warranty against dust entering in lens. Hence no such thing as free lens servicing, even during warranty period.

I have decided not to be itchy. I will not send my camera for cleaning just cos the warranty is ending. Thank you jfoo and chngpe01 for the advice and information. Appreciate that.

Actually sensor cleaning for your camera is OK, just let your lens rest at home

You can do a test on your D80 sensor, see if they are any small dust anot ... then decides what to do next .. sensor dust cleaning will cost you $20+ if no warranty

So no such thing as free lens cleaning of fungus during lens cleaning, what is the use of LENS warranty?

No free lens cleaning no matter with warranty or not...
Few dusts inside the lens normally won't affect the pictures. Just leave them there.

warranty is for manufacturing defects, and dust entering lens doesn't not consider as a manufacturing defects, fungus grow due to carelessness of user.

I remember that there is a thread on how to test for dust. Will search for it and test my D80. Thank you.

Just an example ..

You can test it shooting against a clear blue sky ,, first using f/5.6 and then using f/16 and compare the 2 images, the dust on the sensor (which will be a dark dot) can be easily seen.
