Default cable to connect to SB800

help..

I got this trigger for my main strobe. Main strobe has a big plug in the unit.

But how can i use this on my SB800? is there a converter that I can use to connect the male plug into SB800?

Optical triggering doesn't work for you? You might need to find an adapter to convert the head to the sync type. Looks like the cable in the centre has one end which should fit the flash. The other end is a 3.5mm, so you might be able to get one of those 6.5mm female to 3.5mm female adapter from DIY shop to connect them together.

you could check with OP if they have a suitable cable to convert the large plug to pc connector. or a suitable receiver having the same frequency as your trigger but with a pc connector.

unless you are using the D3 or lower end bodies, you can also use your pop up flash for wireless flash or SU4 optical mode with the SB800.

my camera is d70. It cannot control the flash power of 2 CLS groups. Only 1 group.
I want my SB600 and SB800 to fire at different power. And i dont want to mount SB800 in the camera.

Method 1 (use SU mode for the SB800):
use the built in commander to trigger sb600. Use SB800 in SU mode. In this case, I can
control each power differently.

Problem:
The commander light will trigger the SB800 since it is SU mode. SB800 lights up then mess up with the 'commander light code'. So SB600 wont fire.

method 2 (use third party optical trigger on the SB600 and SU mode for SB800)
Use the built in commander to trigger them.
Problem: Out of sync. SB600 fires but not on time. Pictures shows only SB800 lights up.

So looks like the only solution is make the SB800 as master (and control its output power from the unit) and trigger SB600 (and control its power from SB800). But I cant have cables running from my camera to SB800.

Any CLS experts there that may have any recommendations? I have the pc cable with the small (2mm?) in the other end as shown in the picture. So I guess my solution is to connect this to SB800 and do a DIY converter to convert 3.5mm male from the receiver to this 2mm?

for you method 2... instead of using a third party optical trigger, why not try the ORIGINAL NIKON "SU-4 controller"?

Anyway, I've started a thread (now sticky) on NIKON CLS... http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=362747

you can set your D70 onboard flash to manual with the lowest power setting and use your SBs with optical slaves in manual mode.

alternatively, get a TTL cable to mount your SB800 off camera and use wireless CLS with the SB600.
