Default How to determine a lens resale value ?

    Hi Brothers and Sisters,

Seeking for your opinion on how to determine a lens resale value?
Letís me quote an example, Canon 10-22mm F3.5-4.5 new lens is about SGD930 with one year warranty.
Seller used for 2 months with warranty, what is the resale value?
Seller used for 1 year without warranty, what is the resale value?

    Thanks

got no fixed formula wan. depends on condition of glass (amount of dust particles?), surface (got any major dings?), etc.

    It depends on the user.

If it is personal belongings, yes usually is by conditions of the items and state of servicable/performance after being used by you.

But if it is in a company... There is an admin procedure. It is referred to as the 'depreciation value' - by monthly basis.

When you purchase an L lens @ say S$10000, the good to use life usage is usually 10 years...

Using S$10000 divide by 10 years = S$1000 depreciation per year @ S$83 per month

Supposing by the end of 5 years, if the item is no useful to us and another company wants it, we sell by S$83 x 60mths (5 years left) = S$4980 to the other company. User wear & tear usually can be negotitable for further discounts.

it depends on how much buyer willing to pay.. or how desperate the person is..

if you have some cheap but rare glass bought 20 years ago but out of production and with demand.. even with a banged up condition people will still pay a decent price for it.. even above.. the cost price....

do an advanced search under the canon WTS section for your lens, then determine your selling price from there.
