Hi guys, I have a Nikon 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6G lens that came with a F80 passed down from my sis.
I've thought of going digital, can this lens work with the dSLRs? |

Shouldn't be a problem as I'm using some of the old SLR lens on my DSLR too.

Presume you are referring to Nikon DSLR, state the model of your camera, some models may not able to do auto focusing with none AFS lenses

I am using the same lens with my D80. No problems, decent PQ, especially at that price (ZERO!). |

i use my D80 with almost 20 year old lenses
my old D70 also can, no problem D40/D40X and D60 must have AF-S lens to auto focus, but still can use manual focus Manual focus lenses can also mount and use but no metering

its only if you have to manual focus or auto focus. plus metering. i shoot in manual normally and MF quite abit these days so well, i think some old lenses are worth keeping and a pleasure to use =) |

Here here ahquan, I too use manual focus and metering as well. This gives us more control over the photos we are taking. I even use Canon 5D on all my manual Nikon AI, ED lenses.

Do remember as traditional films use 35mm.If your dSLR use a smaller sensor size(1.5x?), 28mm would be around 35mm which may not be wide enough for everyday shots such as groups'

Kind of interested to play with Manual Focus Lens.
Just a question to ask all the people who has experience with this: Using Manual focus lens with most DSLR (D50 for mine) cannot meter. If so, how do you select your exposure and shoot? (trial and error not an answer :P) |

2) If in a studio environment where lighting is more or less fixed, you can do a test shot and use the histogram to determine exposure. 3) Otherwise, use an external light meter. To me, sunny-16 rule etc are all considered trial and error. Last edited by lsisaxon; 15th August 2008 at 11:04 AM. |
