Hi all, I'm assuming that the 50mm 1.4 is better considering that the 1.4 is more expensive. haha it sounds very DUH but yea. anyway, would need a layman's understanding on the difference between these 2 lenses because i'm intending to get 1 of them so i'd like to get more views to make an informed decision as to which of the 2 to get considering price and any other factor. thanks for all your advice!

Usually, I do not advocate the waiting game.
But unless you have no lenses at present that covers that focal length and with Photokina just around the corner, there is a very small chance of Nikon announcing (note: announce // not available) some new primes... Perhaps. Just perhaps. If you have to make a buy now, you could do a search on the merits of both that has been discussed many times here. It is readily available. |

Precisely. That was why I mentioned that ...
"Usually, I do not advocate the waiting game." ... as well the the first sentence of the next para ... I will break it (the usual rule) this time. |

why dont u look around photo albums and see the pictures taken by 1.8 and 1.4.
Of course, if you have the dough, go for the better one. Otherwise, the 1.8 can also do magic in the right hands. =) |

good equipment = expensive money talks in this forum, sad to say. ![]() some users of this lens did mention before 50mm is a bit tight for group shots, 2 or more ppl onwards, may have to walk further away to snap a shot. why not you go loan this lens for 2 days to test, then decide whether you like it a not. the next prime lens the sigma 30mm f1.4 HSM which is 2x the price of a nikon 50mm f1.4 Last edited by Simon_84; 23rd July 2008 at 09:00 AM. |
