Default Question for D3 users...

I just wonder, in D3, if you put a DX lens, will the camera automatically switch to the DX mode and force you to shoot in that mode or will it allow you to override it, shoot full frame and do the crop manually?

Thanks guys..

Yup, you can overide the crop factor, but you get Vignetting at the edge of the picture.
I sometime find the vignetting quite unique in some picture sense.

In D3, you also have a 5:4 factor mode to shoot.

Some DX lenses like the 17-55/2.8 and 12/-24/4, u can use it FF if you can tolerate some slight vignetting and blurred corners(around the longer half of the zoom range), or make a slight crop which is not as small as a full DX crop.

Eg, the 12-24, from 18mm onwards, you can do a 1.2x or 1.3x crop and it still looks excellent. In other words, you do not need to do a full DX crop for the range from 18-24mm.

Read in DPR somewhere that people have cut the lens hood off the 10.5mm Fisheye and 'forced' the D3 to shoot in FX mode to render full Circular Fisheye shots. No need to buy the 8mm Fisheye anymore, if you can find one. Very cool.

Regret selling my 10.5mm Fisheye ...
