    Default AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED

Hi, can an AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED double up as a portrait lens? Currently using a D80 kit len 18-135mm, couldn't acheive good photo indoor.

Hi, yes. You can use it. I have tried but do note that the colors will be different. You need to fine tune yr vivid - neutral colors settings.

Secondly, note that the depth of field is quite small. You may need to constantly make sure that you have focus on the eyes. Anywhere else produces a 'non-sharp' picture.

nice bokeh as a portrait lens... just too much tele on a cropped body. will end up standing rather far from subject

    Try to improve your basics.

This is shot indoors with 18-55 (D60 kit lens). Maybe you might not consider this to be good also..

What do you mean by "couldn't achieve good photo indoor?"

Is it due to poor composition? If yes: Shoot more to improve

Is it due to lack of light? If yes: Increase ISO or 105 f/2.8 can certainly help a bit.

Is it due to insufficient bokeh? If yes: 105 f/2.8 can give better bokeh. Or you can consider 85mm f/1.4.
