Default Night Crane

Hi,
Below are a few night shot of the crane (sorry, not the biological crane ) use for my flat lift upgrading:
Wide angle shot - Canon 450D EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 18mm f/3.5 ISO 400

Normal angle shot - Canon 450D EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 24mm f/5.6 ISO 400

Close angle shot - Canon 450D EF50mm f/1.8 II @ f4.0 ISO 800

Comments are welcome.

Have a nice day.

The background made your composition kinda messy... were you able you get into the construction site? probably you can shoot from low angle, will have a strong and tall feel of the crane...

You probably had direct flash fired too right? Doesn't look too nice when it reflects off the surface of the crane. I think the colour of the crane also looks a little off because of the flash. Perhaps long exposure might have been better if you had a tripod.

Also, are the mechanics on the crane the intended subjects? If so, a little bokeh might help.. The background is a little distracting.

each photos does have a subject, a theme, a story to tell...

your photos show nothing but just a part of the crane, what are you trying to tell, or show people?

It's not in the construction site... it's outside my house windows which is on the 6th floor... It's used for the lift upgrading. Was surprise to see the top of the crane outside of my house windows when I return from a ClubSnap night gathering.

Oops... I didn't notices it. Struggling to hold the camera still for the shot and I miss the alignment... ha ha ha

Ha ha ha... Yap... you are correct. I don't have an external flash yet as I'm still new in photography and still learning how to take nice photo... Once I master my camera and know how to use a flash the correct way, I'll then consider getting an external flash... external flash not cheap leh. Anyway, the shot was taken hand held as the windows area is obstructed and can't set up a tripod. Also, I compare the colours and it's look around the same with the crane colour during the day time. I try without flash, but it's turn out to be very blur as I can't hand held it for that long. Also, the colour produce without the flash looks reddish... I think affected by the street lighting.

I think not every photo you took are necessary to have a subject, a theme or a story to tell and I'm not sure how many people out there actually think about this when they take the photo. For me, photography is a fun thing... you learn how to handle the camera, how all those controls work and how to combine shutter speed, exposure time & etc to take a correctly expose photo... Hmm... May be I'll think about a subject, a theme, a story to tell in the future, but now I think my priority are to get all those technical parts right in most of my shot first.

By the way, it's not likely that you'll find the top of the crane outside your house windows every now and then, so I took the photo of it and share with all of you who are interested... also learn how to take a better photo next time from the comments.

Thanks for all the suggestion and comments... will try to take note during my next shot.

Happy shooting and have a nice day.

Can't really help it as this is what I saw when looking out my window... can't ask them to shift the crane, right... ha ha ha Anyway, I don't think I'll see the crane again as they already completed the lifting of the lift shaft.

Will try to learn and improve on composition next time.

Have a nice day.
