Hi,
I need advice on which lenses to purchase for my new FM2 camera. I already have a 50mm Nikon Lens (this has a crack and the seller is currently trying to settle the insurance and stuff) and 28mm Lens. I'm thinking of getting either Nikkor 24mm f2.0 or Nikkor 24mm f2.8 and 85mm Nikkor telephoto. Are the 3 suitable for FM2? How much would it cost? Where can I buy them affordably in Singapore? Is there a list out there to check for the compatibility for FM2? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. ![]() |

you might wanna ask yourself what you'd like to shoot, perhaps a zoom lens (e.g. tokina 28-70 f2.6~2.8) will be more versatile for the occassion, rather than having to change lenses every now and then.
my 2 cents

lilith_51,
All the lens you listed are suitable for FM2. More information on lens or acessories compatibility with FM2 can be obtained via this link: http://www.nikon.com.sg/PRODUCT/slrcamera/Fm2n.htm For recommended retail prices of Nikon manual lenses, follow this link under Nikkor lenses: http://www.nikon.com.sg/ In actual transaction, you should be able to get some discounts. Give a call or obtain an e-quote from Cathay Photo (http://www.cathayphoto.com.sg/), Alan Photo (http://www.phsphoto.com.sg/), M S Colour (http://www.mscolor.com.sg/) and not forgetting Gope's Photo at Tanglin Shopping Centre (Tel: 67372633) for availability of lenses and prices. Insist on Nikon warranty card for after sales support. Hope these help. ![]() |

One thing. I couldn't find the list of lenses that can be used from http://www.nikon.com.sg/PRODUCT/slrcamera/Fm2n.htm. I'm lazy and tend to rely on lists. I will try out the stores you've listed when I have the time. Thanks once again. Be warned, I might be back. ![]() |

In terms of compatibility the FM2 is probably the most compatible body you can find. OK you cant use the G lenses and certain super fisheyes( requirring mirror lockup). Other than those, you can virtually use every AI and AF lenses in the Nikon arsenal.

I have used the 50mm f/1.4 and f/1.8 AIS, as well as the 50mm f/1.8 E series. These three are good lenses and for the best value, the E series can be had for under $100. Other primes that I have used are the 24mm f/2 and the 28mm f/2.8, both of which are very, very good lenses. Between these 2, I prefer the 24mm because of the wider coverage. Have also used the 20mm f/4 and the f/2.8, of which the f/4 is slightly better in terms of sharpness. As for telephotos, have used the 85mm f/2 and the 105mm f/2.5, of which the 105mm gives better contrast.
An estimated breakdown of the used prices: 20mm f/2.8 - $500 upwards 24mm f/2 - $500 upwards 28mm f/2.8 - $350 50mm f/1.8 E series - less than $100 50mm f/1.8 - less than $200 50mm f/1.4 - $250 upwards 105mm f/2.5 - $300 upwards (VERY hard to find, if u see a good one, grab it straight coz it will be sold when within 24 hours of display) remember to use a lens hood all the time. |

there are still new Nikon manual lenses in the market. I think Cathay Photo still have some. I ask their equote, price is higher than AF version...much higher. Buy 2nd hand wiser...
105mm f2.5, is this lens really good? What's the minimum focusing distance? |
