    Transfer window

The transfer window will be closed when there is less than 2 weeks left of the season until the league has had its season update. This means that you won't be able to transfer list player or place bids on players during this time. You will not be able to place bids on players with a deadline past the closure of the transfer window. If you transfer list one of your players and he would have gotten a deadline past the closure of the transfer window then the deadline will be set to the latest possible deadline. This means that if you transfer list a player when it is 6 hours left until the transfer window closes then the player will only be transfer listed for 6 hours.

ALONSO SET FOR ANFIELD TALKS, Arbeloa to leave?

Xabi Alonso is set to hold talks with Rafa Benitez over his future at Liverpool, while Alvaro Arbeloa could leave the club.

Rafa Benitez hoped to sell the Spanish midfielder to fund his move for Gareth Barry, but interest has cooled significantly since Juventus chose to sign Christian Poulsen from Sevilla, rather than hold out for Alonso.

Alonso returned to training at Melwood on Friday after his extended post-Euro 2008 holiday, and the Liverpool Post claims he wishes to clarify his Anfield future.

The Spaniard has said in the past that he would be happy to stay at Liverpool, but Benitez needs to sell in order to raise the required cash for not only Barry, but Robbie Keane as well.

Speculation increased that the Keane transfer is a step closer to completion after he was left out of a Spurs pre-season friendly in Spain by Juande Ramos.

Meanwhile, the Post claims Arbeloa wants to leave Liverpool.

The full-back reportedly would like to return to Spain for personal reasons, and while Liverpool would probably have no problems finding a buyer, that move could also impact the Barry transfer.

Despite claiming he would settle for no less than 18million, Martin O'Neill is thought to be willing to accept a slightly lower fee plus Steve Finnan in exchange for Barry.

However, if Arbeloa is also sold, that would leave new signing Philip Degen as the only specialist right-back at Anfield.

    LUCAS HAS BIG PLANS

Brazilian Under-23 midfielder Lucas Leiva hopes to play a bigger role at Liverpool in the upcoming season and help the Anfield side to end their long league title drought.

The 21-year-old will miss the first few weeks of the season due to Olympic national team duty but hopes to stake a regular starting spot after returning from China.

"Of course it's going to be difficult but I will be trying my best (to get regular starts)," said Lucas, who started only 12 league matches for the Reds last season.

"We had a good second half of the season but we didn't win the title. Hopefully this year we can win the title and this is our challenge now.

"I think that winning the league is most important because it's been an 18 year wait since we last won it.

"The focus is to win something but the most important thing now is the Premier League."

While keen to be a part of Liverpool's title challenge, the main priority for Lucas right now is the Olympics as Brazil look to capture their first ever football gold medal.

"Of course Liverpool would have wanted me playing in Liverpool because I will miss some games - some important games - but they know that this (the Olympics) is important for me and for the country.

"Hopefully, we will win this title and then I can return to Liverpool and think about the Premier League, the Champions League and the other cups."

The Brazilians are regarded as one of the favourites despite their lack of gold medals but the former Gremio player knows that it will not be easy to live up to the hype.

"It's good to be favourites but now we just have to think about taking it game by game," he said.

"It's difficult but now we have to focus on our two friendlies against Singapore and Vietnam and then think about the Olympics.

"It's normal for Brazil to be thought of as favourites so we just have to take it game by game and try to do our best."

    HOBBS SEALS LEICESTER LOAN DEAL

Leicester have signed Liverpool defender Jack Hobbs on loan.

The 19-year-old is highly regarded at Anfield and has also won international honours with England's Under 19 side.

Hobbs spent the second half of last season on-loan at Scunthorpe and will now spend the whole of next term with League One Leicester.

Foxes boss Nigel Pearson has overseen a busy summer of reshaping his squad at the Walkers Stadium, with his latest addition eager to help the club back to the Championship at the first attempt.

"I am really pleased to have signed and can't wait to get started," Hobbs told the club's official website.

"This is a massive club with a good manager and top class Premier League facilities.

"Liverpool have some world class centre-backs so I spoke to the boss and he said I was free to go out on loan and gain some experience.

"I now want to start playing and get to know the lads. I can assure everyone that I will give 100 per cent.

    BARRY`S FUTURE REMAINS UNCLEAR

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill still has has no idea if Gareth Barry will be at the club next season.

In one of the longest running transfer sagas of the summer the England international had been expected to complete a big-money move to Liverpool.

However, despite tabling numerous bids, the Reds have failed to match Villa's valuation of their skipper and appear to have cooled their interest in the 27-year-old.

O'Neill concedes that negotiations between the Premier League rivals have stalled and has not ruled out the possibility of Barry remaining at Villa Park next term.

"We haven't heard back from Liverpool," he told Sky Sports News.

"We asked them for some written confirmation for something that was put to them at the time, which they asked for, but we haven't heard back.

"I don't know what their position is, whether their chase for other players has overtaken everything, but it's preventing us from getting on and we want it sorted as soon as possible.

"But if it means Gareth remaining as an Aston Villa player then that's something I wouldn't be too unhappy about."

O'Neill refused to set a timescale in which he wants the matter resolved, but admitted that the sooner it is sorted the better it will be for all concerned.

"I'm loath to put down markers early on and then find out that we're unable to meet them," he added.

"But at some stage we do have to know, and the player will want to know his port of call.

"If Liverpool are unable to do it then the sooner they let us know the better."

O'Neill also refuted suggestions that he had fielded Barry in a friendly date against Walsall on Tuesday, where the midfielder was roundly booed, in an attempt to humiliate him in front of the club's supporters.

"First of all Gareth wanted to play in the game against Walsall and I don't think anyone was setting out to humiliate him in the game," said O'Neill.

"He's in the right frame of mind and he'll be in the squad for the game tomorrow (against Odense in the Intertoto Cup).

"He's our player. A fortnight ago we were shunning him and now we're being criticised for playing him a game in which he wanted to play."
