Thread: what to expect in a indian wedding?

  1. #1

Default what to expect in a indian wedding?

    my colleague's getting married soon.
i'm not her official photographer, but i would like to bring my camera to shoot about as my impression of indian weddings are very colorful.

anyone has done indian weddings?care to share your pics or give me some pointers?
i'm invited to their traditional wedding as well as the customary dinner.

    both are night events.
i am thinking not to bring flash, though i would very much love to try my new flash.
i dont want to intrude into the official photog's space, hence most prob will bring long lens.70-200 maybe?

please do share your experience for those who have shot indian weddings.
    thanks much!

anyway, there are a lot of things happen in the indian weddings, which most of us are not very familiar, best is get someone from the wedding couple families to guild you along, it will be much easier that way.

for what I know and can remember are drink mike, eat banana, and bow to parents and grand parents.

Don't have to be close to ask nicely.

Many races and cultures find it an honor or feel touched when members of another race want to find out more about their culture and practices.

My take is it would be basic courtesy to ask if you could bring your camera and shoot. It's a bit different from friends and relative who bring their teeny weenies and flash flash as compared to a BIIIG BAAAD ASS set up. Try not to make the official tog feel too inadequate about his own equipment hor!

Maybe you should ask if the wedding is in a temple or elsewhere.

What to expect? Lots of color, noise, crowds and excellent food

But seriously, if the main photographer is experienced, just follow him around for a while. He will take you to wherever the main stuff is happening. Then you can wander off and shoot on your own.

Is it a christian, hindu or muslim wedding?

    HUH!?!?!??!?!

    me follow official photog?
no way i will do that.
otherwise, he will think i'm stealing his shots/angles.and i personally dont think it's a nice thing to do.
in fact i will go exactly opposite to where he shoots, so that my pictures will be completely different from him.in that way, i can give the my friends some pics from different angles which the photog didnt cover.

    it's a hindu wedding.
