i use an ACER Scanwit 2720. i tried the provided software, and then bought Vuescan.
Vuescan is miles ahead of anything the manufacturer provided. The interface is not as simple, but offers a lot of control. There are hundreds of film profiles, and lots of parameters to tweak - if you understand them. On my Acer, vuescan allows multiple passes, and long scans, choice of when to focus, manual focus, and a lot a lot of other stuff. i bought it at ~US$15-20 a few years back - i've been getting free upgrades as they come out over the years. The owner also entertains wish-list items, if enough folks ask for them. You also get VuePrint thrown in, though i don't use it. It also supports a lot of scanners, so if i buy another scanner, chances are, the Vuescan still works. You can try Vuescan for free first - there'll be a water-mark pattern in your pictures in the free version, but the quality is there. Just download and try. Highly recommended, without reservation. Download n try today. There's another software called Silverfast, supposed to have a friendlier interface, but costs a lot more. |

Fool around with the many options; one of them lets you choose which manufacturer and exactly which model of film - i didn't know there were a few versions of the Fuji 400 consumer film until i saw the combo. Have to experiment to see which gives best results. Vuescan was written for ppl who are computer literate, so maybe the interface a bit intimidating. It's improved, actually. The earlier versions had a help file so brief it was useless. |
