erm... no 3rd party flash, pls......
only nikon Flashes... worse come to worse, i'll haf to get 2 flash... one exclusively for my beloved FM2... and 1 for both F80 and D100... (same camera body structure, so i guess they should be able to share the same Flash?SB80DX? is it?) but just to get 1 for all 3 would be splendid...and very kind to my dieting wallet... thanx all ya fellow Nikonians!!! |

You have 3 options...
1. SB-28DX 2. SB-50DX 3. SB-80DX But because of your pop-up flash unit on both the D100 and F80, the SB-50DX would be the obvious choice as it has been designed to sit nicely in the hotshoe without any worries about the pop-up flash clashing with the Speedlight. Your other body (FM2) will work fine on it as well. |

I got a CP5000 & a F90X, what would you guys recommend so I can use the flash on both bodies? No worries about pop-up flash. I am also looking into getting a nikon manual body.
Question: The DX flash is meant for digital bodies like D100 & Coolpix series? Just like the new AF-S DX 12-24mm. Just wanna know what the DX really means. Thanks everyone for any comments |

I believe the DX is meant for the Digital Series, and yet at the same time it an handle the film series.
The SB-80DX is the latest and best so far for the D100 and F80 cameras, using it on my CP5700 (overkill) the SB-80DX does not hinder the popup flash at all. It can and will be fully utilized by the D100 and F80, the FM2 should work well with it as well. IMHO, the SB-80DX is a better buy over the SB-50DX. Not just because it's latest, but because of it's powerful flash and AA batteries usage. Hope it helps. bar8cuda: I do recommend the SB-80DX, but note that it will not be utilized fully by the CoolPix series. |

If you have a Nikon Digital SLR, your choice is limited to SB28DX, 50DX and 80DX as mentioned above, as Nikon Digital SLR "has to" use the DX flash to be able to work properly (at least this is what they say).
Out of the 80DX and 50DX (28DX is no longer available), my recommendation is toward 80DX. The 50DX is so not powerful, yet it uses the expensive CR123 battery. Considering you are choosing the DX because you own a Nikon Digital SLR, which means you tend to shoot more than when you are using film, the running cost of the 50DX can be irritating. If you use F60 and below (do not know abut F65, probably included in this segment), I recommend the SB-22s. Those cameras cannot automatically zoom the zoom head, so it is rather useless, yet irritating to zoom the flash manually. You will lose the horisontally rotating head and the stroboscopic function, but those are hardly used anyway. It is much cheaper than SB-50DX yet provides lower running cost with AA batteries. If you use F80 and above, you do not need the DX flash, but you probably want ones with the zooming head, options are the 50DX, 80DX and secondhand SB24, 25, 26 or 28. If you use coolpix, then SB-22s is the way to go. Coolpix does not zoom the head, and CANNOT read the "DX Data" provided by the DX flash. So, you all can decide which flash you want to buy for your cameras combination. If your cameras are F60 and Coolpix 5000 for instance, getting the SB-22s is the wisest way to go. If one of your cameras is D100, then Sb-80DX will give the lowest running cost with its AA battery use. |

no ttl. you need to use auto modes and set the aperture on the camera accordingly.
