Just a brief look back on my experience with Pentax.. after hitting a milestone - my counter rolled over. Now at 10,262 shots, taken in 5 months. (And no, I don't do burst-mode; only tried out machine-gunning once, and found it wasn' to my taste. Not a sports shooter.)
Maybe this will help those considering to go Pentax. I hope! My K100DS has been with me through 3 overseas trips - Penang, Melbourne/Tasmania, Dayang - and held its own against the elements quite well. The build quality really shines here, cos I have dinged and banged it (ouch!) a few times, and it still cranks along without a fuss. I love the way it handles, and how it fits in my hands. But I have to say that after trying out a K10D and (Nikon) D200 from fellow photog during a recent shoot, I wish for a viewfinder like those. It's when also where I discovered I'm a born prime shooter :P Have invested in 3 primes so far. All brilliantly sharp and light, though I find it hardest to get keepers with the 21 Limited - used it mostly for landscapes, and it's definitely not easy! The FA50 and 70 Ltd are superb for portraits, and I use them almost exclusively for that alone. Hardly touched the kit lens these days though ![]() 50-200 has served me well for airshow and wildlife shoots (wildlife as in, erm, rather tame sheep, various birds, cats and other not so wild critters though). All in all, a happy thriving Pentaxian! ![]()

wa, 10K in 5 months is really fast. my ol' k100d was 18k when i let it go, after one year plus, and that is with inclusion of jpg shooting for hdr processing.
glad to hear that you are enjoying pentax, i'm sure everyone here shares the same sentiments as well. to more good years ahead with pentax! ![]() |

To achieve 10 k shutter count within 5 months is an achievement. You need passion to achieve this figure. Great, keep it up. My K10D bought in Dec 06 has about 18K shutter count till todate. Still way below your average.

Thanks for the encouraging words, guys!
Quantity isn't quality, alas, though I wish it is :P It helps that I had many chances to shoot; besides trips, I did a wedding (backup), various events and outings, and even a portrait shot for friends' company site. And, of course, the tips and advice I got from the forum folks here were a great help too! I almost didn't bring my DA50-200 to Oz, which would have been a big mistake. Lucky you guys advised me otherwise. All my lenses (save the kit) are also bought 2nd-hand from people in this forum, with free consultation thrown in too. Now, where else can you find such a wonderful community? ![]()

haha. that's a lot. mine 4 mths liao, almost 5k. haha. i don machine gun oso. i do dislike that the cam is a bit on d slow side, but i don really use continuous often. so its ok.
quality i agree! really glad. still solid. i also like the dust reduction. i feel it really works. changed lens outdoors a lot of times, still not much dust (or any i can't see). yet to get prime lenses. hope to get 1 soon! esp the popular 50/1.4 ... geez.. duno hw long must collect money to buy.. haha

Yah man, in low light, it takes forever to focus.. have lost shots that way. Maybe I should try manual focussing..
Do go for the 50mm; the f1.4 -f2.4 range really opens up new photographic worlds.. Anyway, to those who're focussed on my 10k milestone, I don't think it's that impressive :P Would be happier with a higher keeper %, haha. And came across this by chance (a discussion on the dust-shake function, of all things).. this chap shot 16k photos on his K20D in 4 months. Now, that IS something! http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...hread=28594199
