Default Cokin P Sq filters on Sony 707?

Hi,

I wanted to get the Cokin filter (77mm) set that came with the holder, the sq rect filters and adapter ring...

but someone in CP told me that it may not work on a 707 due to the adapter ring blocking certain sensors on the 707 lens edge... i wonder if he was talking about the Infrared beam and the hologram laser.....

he said that the lights reflected by this sensors and laser will cast a red dot on the filters and result in the pictures having a red cast or dot on it...

has anybody tried it? is it true?

i am quite keen to get it esp the gradual filters for taking landscape.. better than the screw in one .. more flexible can adjust the height of the tint...

Thanks for your comments....

Any filter which is on the 707/717 will cause the laser to reflect off it and therefore produce a red dot while composing the picture. However, the camera switches off the laser after it's done AF and therefore the red dot will not appear in the final picture.

However, you may have problems with the Nightshot mode because the IR illuminators will reflect off the filter and cause multiple images of themselves...

hi,

thanks for your reply....

so it is worth getting and won't have a red cast in the final picture?

actualy i have the screw on type but they are really troublesome as having to screw them on everytime i change them...

plus have difficulty focusing after i attach the soft diffuser... which means i must focus before attaching it...

any other comments, anybody? thanks in advance

No you won't have any problems. Just go and get one
Anyway, you might as well get a decent UV filter, leave it on permanently (except when using the WA or TC). Recommend the B+W type. Spendy but a one-time buy.
