Default Stofen Ommibounce and Gary Fong Lightsphere versus the cheaper replica cheongs?

I am wondering which ones to buy for events photography.

The real Stofen and Lightsphere which are both quite expensive.

Or just get from Tago Tech the replica Stofen cap and the Lambency.

I got the feeling they all are as good its just the brand name thingy.

Advise is appreciated, thanx in advance.

I'm not too sure the lightsphere should be used for event photography, cos lightsphere 'eats' up a lot of flash power, so u're firing at higher power more often. So if u shoot burst mode, like maybe shots of the VIP walking down the aisle, then might fry yr flash sooner, or u'd find 1 shot got flash, then next shot no flash cos the flash can't charge fast enuf.

Anyway the selling point of lightsphere is that it gives natural looking light, but for event photography, u dun really need perfect and natural looking light, it's more impt to get the right expressions and capture the moment and since some events might be fast moving, u're constrained by the flash recycle time.

Anyway when u look at the press PGs or the paparrazzi, they don't use flash modifiers.

Those are very good points, thank you, I appreciate much.

How about just removing the thing off when burst mode is needed?

can.. but where u gona put the bowl when u suddenly need to shoot burst? It wont fit into yr jeans pocket like the stofen . And the lightsphere has a bad habit of dropping out when u least expect it to, or when u're squeezing in between hordes of people trying get a good angle of the VIP.

Anyway depends on yr event. If its a slow moving event like a company dinner and dance, then maybe the lightsphere is ok..

That's some valid points. Thank you!

On the other hand, maybe throw that tupperware at the VIP's head to get his attention. His blur/enraged/shocked face will surely make some great photos!
