    Your question is kinda vague.

For starters, what kind of objects are you talking about? Moving? Still? Large? Small?
What do you want to achieve? Magnification?

Prosumer with 10 times zoom should be able to do it. Price maybe $500++ to $800.
    Let's get rolling :)

any camera with any lenses can capture any objects at 50 meters away.

just like you can use your naked eyes to see an objects at 50 meters away..

so how big is your object? and how much magnification you want?

    Prosumer is not a brand...

    prosumer |prōˈsoōmər|
    noun
1 an amateur who purchases equipment with quality or features suitable for professional use: : the magazine is aimed at the prosumer who uses a $10,000 camera to make home movies of his dog.
2 a prospective consumer who is involved in the design, manufacture, or development of a product or service: : a panel of prosumers weighed in on the plans for the new shampoo.
a person who designs or produces a product for personal use or for sale: : she's a driven prosumer with one idea: to make a better-smelling toothpaste.
a well-informed and proactive consumer: : prosumers read labels, sometimes obsessively.
    .
ORIGIN blend of professional or producer or proactive and consumer.

You didn't specify how big you want your object to appear in your camera. In any case, you can consider Nikon P80, comes with 18x zoom. Should be enough.

Your thread title simply says: "Looking for cameras to capture objects that's 50 metres away"
If you want relevant advice, please specify at least the following:
    1) Budget [you mentioned <$1000]
    2) How big is the object that you want to capture? A hotel building? An aeroplane? A car? A person? A bird?
    3) How big do you want the object to be? Fill the whole image? Half? A quarter?
    4) Can this camera be fitted to a tripod? Or must it be handheld?
    5) Any other specific requirements...

2 & 3) Big enough to be able to see the licence plate number
    4) Handheld should be sufficient
    5)Nope
    Still under 'L' Plate

I guess you should just follow windwaver's advice, and get one of those prosumers with 18x zoom. Bump up the ISO super high, since the ability to see the license number is more important than noise performance, am I right?
