The following are the checklist for generating acceptable passport photos:

    1. Frame subject with full face, front view, eyes open, mouth closed

    2. Center head within frame

    3. Photograph subject against a plain white or off-white background; Usually using smooth white cloth as background should be OK.

    4. Position subject and lighting so that there are no distracting shadows on the face or background

    5. Encourage subject to have a natural expression. No smiling. As reported by timesonline, smiling babies contributed to 400,000 passport applications being rejected by The UK Passport Service (UKPS) towards the end of 2005. So no smiling, just natural expression.

    6. Ensure light on the face is even.

After taking the photo, you can use the following online tools to generate a 4R photo. No need to worry about the size requirements. The systems help you to crop the photo and put several passport photos on a 4R sheet.

    2. www.epassportphoto.com

Please see the recommended guideline below. The requirements should be similar for Singapore passport.

If you have any advice, please add.

To shoot a baby well, you have to be able to 'think' like a baby.

Entertainment, patience and lightning fast responses (to shoot) is critical.

Or the 'real secret weapon' is to hire Catchlights to shoot for you. He is very experienced in these areas and has a few 'secret weapons' of his own.

I also facing that problem before...
and that time I just using a PnS D-cam.
But if you have a DSLR I think will be more easily to take a good pix.

And this is how we did it.

    1) First we put him on the bed (Change the bed sheet to one colour tone)
    2) I was standing on the bed and facing him and holding a camera on standby mode.
    3) Before that my wife playing with him using a toy to distract him and slowly she stand up and stand beside me and use the toy to catch his attention.
    4) So I took as many shot as possible.
    5) After that we review the pix again.

Total we have tried abt 3 times....
and finally we selected the right pix and do a resize edit and submit the application online at ICA website.

Is not easy but will able to get it right.. after tired a few time.

    Hope this will help...

    Thank for your compliments DM..

btw, you guys can try this...

use a laptop to play any DVD children show,
let your baby watch the show, 99% of babies will glue to the screen
set up a white b/g behind your baby
    you hide behind the laptop
now you can shoot all you want

I needed to do a passport photo for my little girl when she was 1 month old, so i lay her on my bed with a sheet of white cloth. After snapping the pic, i use photoshop to lighten the background..

I was lucky when my boy was born, I was still holding a Malaysian citizenship. So when we went to the embassy to have his passport photo taken, the people there told us 'anything also can'. LOL. So they took one with him still sleeping. Yeah, it was his passport photo!!! LOL. Later when we changed our passports to the local one here, they were pretty fussy, so we let the photo booth at ICA building do it.

Yeah, that's what I did for my 2 girls too. Shoot when they're like 2-3 months old and they are more controllable.

When my son was only a month old, I place him on a milk white colour sofa and used my Sony Mavica CD300 to take his password photograph.
