Default price of coolpix 775...did i get cheated?

went to deluxe photo. my fren actually wanted the A70. but on realisin she only wnted to take 4R shots, she deicded to get a 2.1mp cam.

i was prepared to get A70...knew the price was around $510...but i knew nothing abt 2.1 mp cams..

went into de-luxe photos, asked the guy to recommend. he showed the 775. asked him how much, he said $360 w/o gst. after some bargaining, got it for $350 with gst.

i wanted the A60, but he siad no one wants the A60, and discouraged me from buying.

did i get cheated? is $350 too high for this cam? would teh 2100 have been better?

According to http://www.bargaincity.com.sg/
the price of 775 should be around $360.

Agree with tweakmax2. I have Nikon 775. It is quite an old model, with no manual controls. But if you just want a point and shoot camera, it is ok (except for night shots, very limited ISOs).

Btw, 2100 looks better than 775.

The answer is painful, but you overpaid for the CP775. You could have gotten it at Harvey Norman for $299 nett about 2 weeks ago.

BUT the point here is this, it will be more than sufficient to develop your pictures to 4R.

As to whether it is a good cam or not, that is really a subjective issue. Since you have purchased it, use it and enjoy. The CP775 gives useable pictures out of the cam, is very light, and small that you will carry everywhere with you and take more shots. It will be a fun experience.

I think the salesperson was trying to clear his old stocks of 775, cos it's a discontinued model already. $350 is reasonable for a point-n-shoot 2.1MP camera, but you can get a newer model with the same price. And in my opinion, A60 is definitely more recommended than 775.

Nonetheless, be sure to do an exhaustive homework before embarking on such a war. A lot of times smoke bombs are thrown so that the enemy can chop your head off. But if your friend isn't particular, the 775 can be good enough for her needs. Just don't think about new and old, cheap and ex.

Cheers!

yah she's fine with it la. she doesnt know nuts about digicams.

let me present u this pic....my friend has a computer at home, btu has not accessed the net for TWO years....why? because....her com doesnt have internet explorer.....and she cant isntall because her com has no cd rom drive. hahaha....

so even if i got her the A60, i think the dial will be permanently set to the Auto mode. so no point la..

but actually, ive read reviews and seen pics...i think the pics from 775 and cp 2100 are very comparable...except the night shots..

any suggestions u guys have as to how to improve night shots for the 775?

For me, I try to avoid night shots with 775. Don't quite like the photos taken by it with flash. Usually try to steady my hand and use without flash (sure blur to some extent). Hee hee maybe next time try with tripod (a bit weird, especially with such a small digicam)

Any suggestions on how to improve the night shots for 775.

lamers.....

anyway, another fren is askin me for recommendations for a good 2.1 mp cam. she just wants to print decent 4R photos. night shots must be good, cos she's goin to england where night falls earlier during different seasons.

waht would u guys recommend?

certainly not the 775.

A60? olympus C-150?

would also appreciate further advice for 3.2 mp cams. is the A70 still hot property?

To take photos under low light conditions, if not using flash, then either choose those cam with larger aperture e.g. f/1.8 (but the digi cams in the price range from $300 to $500 have about the same aperture range) or with a broader range of ISO (noise can be "removed" using Neat Image )
