Hi folks, not trying to start a flame war but I consider myself as a junior hobbyist compared to some of the old birds in the forum. I just want to have a general idea why people choose Sony in particular over all the others (Canon/Nikon/Olympus/Pentax).
For me, it's general the built of Minolta's body and when it comes to lenses support, there're plently from 3rd party lens makers sigma/tamron, etc ![]() |

i am choosing SONY for the fact that you don't have to think too much about lenses. With a body IS you can pick up any old lense and benefit, well most of the old lenses. it is a good point for a cheapo like me who looks into long term stuff...

My first introduction to serious photography was with the use of a Minolta X700.
The my first digicam was the Dimage 7Hi, then later the Dimage A2. IMHO, the best prosumers ever made, even by current standards because of the flexibility of the user interface. Lots of manual over-rides. With the A2 I had my first experience with Anti-Shake, something no other company had at that moment, and I was instantly convinced of its value. Besides the advanced prosumer bodies, both of them could make use of the 5600HS(D), again another piece of hardware that was way ahead of its time. Wireless flash was such a no-brainer that I even suspected that I had to missing out on something and doing it wrong! During those days where DSLRs were still new and expensive, the Dimage A2 proved to be a real alternative for those cameras. I even used the 7Hi and A2 to do quite a few paid shoots. Thereafter, I have owned the D5D, A100 and now A700 & A350. (But if you want the real truth, it's because I just like to be a bit different from everybody else lah)

Because a certain "flagship" showroom's customer service totally sucks.

Used nikon and olympus before. So far really happy with the a700. Very happy with the ergonomic grip, ease of operation and the color reproduction.

Many reasons...
1. Great ergonomics 2. Great image quality 3. Fantastic lenses (other camps can onl dream about native-mount AF Zeiss lenses) 4. Great speed 5. DRO, in-body SSS, etc etc etc etc etc

didnt do much research like u when i bought my A100 last year. always had this belief that its not so much the camera that produces good pictures.. plus, im not a professional photographer or somethin.. so i narrowed it my choices down to the entry level cams.
had 4 entry level sets of different brands placed in front of me in a reputable camera shop. molested every one of them.. had to say the choice is pretty clear. The sony felt good in my hands.. way better than the other 3 bodies.. so i bought it. never looked back. no regrets ![]() bottomline.. personal pref. |

I like SONY
I like Zeiss I like IS as I can use any brand of lenses that has A-mount like Tamron. Also need not to pay too much for accessaries. Last edited by frederickykfoo; 11th July 2008 at 12:36 PM. |

Samsung is the same as Pentax right? So Sigma is the most unique then.
