Hi,
Recently acquired a 2nd hand X700 for next to nothing. Owner has not used it "for a few years", always kept in dry box. When I tried to use it, I realise that the shutter won't trip. Film advance is cocked, metering seems to work, but when shutter button is pressed, nothing happens. Brought it to camera repair shop, the fixed it, saying something about "magnet" weak in the mechanism. Tested it in the shop. It works. Brought it home, test some more, it works. About a week later, same problem. Back to repair shop. Again, something related to the shutter mechanism. Again, works fine in the shop, and when I brought back home. And again, a few weeks later, exactly same symptoms. Anyone have an idea? Is this a common problem of X700s? Thanks!

Don't think it is common problem, but what you can do is, try to use it everyday and see if it goes away.
The problem with camera stuff when don't get regular exercise, they become sluggish. Hope it works. Hart |

Thanks.
I don't think it should happen this way. I have another X700, very responsive, no problems whatsoever. I suspect could be some contact problem with the shutter button, because if I tap it a few times, may it'll fire. But it's just to inconsistent like this. Will take it to the shop again and see what they think.
