Default Tripod recommendations

Hi Folks,

Any idea what's suitable for Canon 450D ? I was thinking of Benro or Manfrotto. After searching through most of the threads, I still can't decide which is a better tripod for me. While I am incline going for a Manfrotto, the cost is not right at this moment and i am also just starting on my DSLR journey previously was with a Panny FZ5.

For now, i am just armed with the default kit 18-55mm IS lens and would love to shoot cityscape or landscape. I do not forseen buying any new lens soon.

Would appreciate if fellow experts give me some insights.

Anyone currently using Benro I would love to hear from you too.

Cheers !

You can take a look at the Benro shop at City hall Peninsula, where most of the Benro tripods would be on display, i just gotten my Manfrotto tripod 190XPRO 2 weeks ago too. love it

Anyway you can try out different brands of tripods before deciding, get a good one and could last you for years w/o upgrading it.

I have a Benro A227n6 (since replaced with some other model, I believe). I think it is great tripod, esp. considering what I paid for it. Doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles - the only extra feature it has is 3 leg position settings (to set it low, primarily for macro shots) and a quick twist center column adjustment.

I have a Manfrotto monopod.

Both are very well built, and the weight shows it.

If price is a concern, I'd not hesitate getting a Benro. I wouldn't get anything smaller than what I have bought though - if I have to keep bending down to use it, chances are it would not get used. And don't take the center column into height consideration. In fact, I replaced my center column with a short one so that it can go even lower.

Tripod heads, now that is a different matter. I'm not sure if the Benro heads are good. I ended up with a Manfrotto 488RC2 that costs heck a lot more than my tripod legs, and I still wonder if I should have bought something more sturdy with a Acra-Swiss type QR.

Out of curiosity, what is the price difference between a Manfrotto 190XProB and the equivalent Benro in Singapore?

Yo mate, the gap is honestly rather huge. I got a mate to get my Manfrotto + head + B+W filter and hood from HK, it's at least 20 percent cheap. I got it at $260 SGD for everything.

That's a fantastic price. It'll be almost $400 from the U.S. (or about $30 less if it is a 3rd party hood). I should start paying attention to HK prices

SGD, not USD, or I'd be planning to move to Hong Kong already.
