Default Need advice on buying lens

Hi,

I am considering to buy a 3rd party zoom lens and am seeking advice from anyone familiar with buying lenses. I am currently using a F65 with a Vivitar 28 - 210 f3.5/5.6 which I bought separately off yahoo! auction. The F65 came with a G lens 28-80. The problem I have now is that the Vivitar lens minimum focal distance of 8.2ft and super slow focusing in low light. However, it works great in bright sunshine.

I intend to get a mid range zoom to compliment the G lense. Probably looking at something in the range of 70-210 or 70-300.
Super Stretched Budget $450.

Shortlisted two:
1) Tamron 70-300 LD f4/5.6 selling at K-13 for $295
2) Vivitar series 1 70-210 f2.8/4 selling clearance at MSColor for $290
3) other recommendations appreciated ..

Your kind assistance is very much appreciated.

regards

for your info!

With your Super Stretched Budget of $450, U can get a second hand nikon 70-300ed in good working condition.
however some luck is needed for this deal! new piece cost abt 550S$

with less than S$300, u can easily get a nikon 70-210 second hand (not too sure abt brand new prices now)

but these 2 above lens dont hve veri wide openings. ia bt f4 to f5+ only

If U don't mind a second stuff, i'll still suggest that u get the orginal above 3rd party. As in telephoto sharpnest is veri important to make the pict real good

if u are interested, u can PM me yr email, will show U pict taken with these 2 equipment. (don know how to post here)

$450 can easily buy you a Tokina AF 80-200 f2.8 ATX(Red ring) if you find it in the market. There is one at P&G Adelphi basement.

Hi,

I have finally made my purchase. I got a used one year + tamron 70 - 300 LD from a fellow CS member at 1/2 retail price. With the balance budget, I managed to get a battery pack, remote control, used flash and a tripod (not the branded one, but good enuff). Will be saving up for a film scanner next month.

I'd like to thank your valuable responses esp jtnet for your sound advice, I'll see where I go in about a year. If I progress, I may commit to higher quality gear. (Maybe I'll write again for advice on the film scanner when i've saved enuff)

Thanks and Best Regards
