thinking to upgrade my 400D to either 40D or 5D. well i know very well i cant afford a new 5D mark 2 if the estimated pricing is RM10k and above. So, any advise and beside full frame, is there any other comparison in term of photo quality?
Sorry for asking such a noobies question, i am so blur now which one to go for |

What are you looking in the picture to make you want to upgrade?
Isn't buying good lenses more impt than upgrading a body? |

I've tried before the 40D and i can say both 40D's AF speed and 5D's are pretty fast.

I have used both 5D and 40D....I must say 40D's image is slightly better then 5D cos images are capture at 14bit in RAW. More details can be seen in dark areas and highlight areas. Live view with AF is also very useful. 40D is also dirt cheap now! Unless you really want FF, else 1.6x is good enough.

Any speculated devices would be great. Some even speculated 7D.

Check this, bob atkins comparison of the 5D Vs the 40D
http://www.bobatkins.com/photography...s_eos_40D.html I recently sold my 40D & picked up a 5D Personally my conclusions are also in line with Bob Atkins, the 5D has better color, contrast & sharpness but you lose out on the long end

I test the RAW (Adobe, not SRGB mode) 5D+24-70L VS 40D+17-55/2.8 IS, 40D win
![]() if you stick with JPG or SRGB, 5D will win... also the F2.8+IS is fantastic... |

Many considerations you have to take into acct like what is your existing lens setup, any EFS lens, etc. but if strictly talking abt AF and ISO performance, my vote goes to 5D!
