Just bought a Tamron SP AF pro 1.4x TC today. Was using handheld IS turned on with Auto Focus centre on the Timberland round logo. I used the ISO 1600 at F4 just to see how bad it is.
Pic taken in my living room and the shoe is my son's 7" Timberland. I am quite happy with the TC performance. http://gallery.clubsnap.com/data/500/TC4.jpg Lens: Canon 70-200 F2.8L IS TC: Tamron white SP AF pro 1.4x TC Cam: 30D

I am not doing a test of lens or TC here, just a hobbyist. In my shots (refering to the pic in the link) the 1.4x TC does not degrade the IQ too much.
Using ISO1600 personally, I thought the IQ will be bad, well it turned out ok. So just to share my personal experience with those who are new to TC, for around $200-230 for a Kenko, Tanron or Sigma it's a good gadget to have if you are already thinking of getting one. THATS ALL.
