Hi guys,
I have grown quite a liking for zeiss lens recently. Does anyone know if it might be possible to mount zeiss's lens on a canon body? I am using 40D currently. Is there like any adapter taht may make this possible? Even if the auto-focusing stuff might not work very well, noisy etc.

Depends on what mount your Zeiss lens has.

I am looking at what options I have. It seems that there are very little options from whati read. Is it mainly viable through the m42 mounts?
I seem to realise that Zeiss has alot of primes. The selection of zoom lens is quite little? At least for those that might possibly mounted on EOS bodies. To make matters worse, aps-c cameras have more probable compatibility issues as compared to full frame ones, thus further reducing the number of options. Would anyone have any recommendations if I am looking for wide angle zoom lenses from zeiss? The zoom range need not be big, maybe something like 10-22/12-24 would be nice.

I use Contax Carl Zeiss 35mm/2.8 and 50mm/1.7.
You need to buy C/Y to Canon EF adapter together with AF chip confirmation. Happy shooting ![]()

Most of the CZ i've seen come in Contax, Nikon F or M42 mount. All 3 can be used on EF mount with an adapter... Wonder why CZ doesn't make native EF mount lenses...

Thanks for all the replies!
Hi weekh, really thanks for the link. You are very knowledgeable at what I am looking at! May I ask for a rough estimation how much I need to prepare if I need to get the right adaptors and say a 21mm or any good wide angle lens from CZ? Lastly, your thread has been around way back in time. May I further ask where would be a good place to source the adapters and CZ/leica lenses now?

If you are looking for Contax Zeiss 21mm/2.8, u need to prepare SGD $3K+ at least. It is one of the best wide lens that people ever made. But it's a waste if you buy such super WA lens for a crop body. Another WA lens with contax mount is Contax Zeiss 18/4, not as good as the legendary 21mm (but doesn't mean that it is not good). I saw one for sale by Fuwen in this forum. For M42 mount, i can recommend Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 20/4 or 20/2.8. They are excellent for architecture with very low distortion. And much cheaper than Contax 21mm also. For adapter, u can try to get from Tagotech or Orient Photo. Last edited by Srono; 9th July 2008 at 12:50 AM. |

If you are going for WA CZ lenses, you should forget about zooms, IMHO. Actually why do you need zooms for WAs? I'm using the Nikon 14mm and 20mm, both f2.8 on my 5D and I'm more than happy with the results! I also have the CZ 85mm f1.4 for portraits and its really, really good!

wow..thanks for providing the valuable information srono and syl. I have came to know that the 21 is a rare, but really had no idea of its price. I am probably not changing to full frame so soon, that's why was hoping to get something wider, else can't really take wide angle shots at all with the 1.6 crop.
Looks like the suggestion 18/4 is more likely. Gonna spend more than 2k for 70-200, no more money to buy another 3k lens...hehe...thanks for help! I wil go to orient photo to see what I can find..
