I chose the DA70, because I figured my skills not enough to make the difference between 70 and 77 show...
So cannot justify the price diff... :-s |

buy what u think is worth ur money... the 77 is at least $300 more than the 70 but its not $300 better, in fact the 70 is sharper, better CA and focus faster...
70 is an excellent lens considering its price, but for me there is not contest, i choose the 77 any time... why ? cos its just a special lens ![]()

FA 77MM is one of the best Pentax Protrait or close up len ....
I don't think 70 can come close to the 77mm f1.8 ...it's one of the Pentax soul len. |

You can't go wrong with either one. If $ is not an issue. Get the FA 77mm Ltd.
You can also go down to the shop and play with both to see which you like better. I got myself the DA70mm Ltd. |

Just to check which shop can let me play with both? Thanks. Is the silver 77 more sought after and hard to find?

Have'nt played with a DA70 for comparison. Love the FA77 : nice portrait lens. Very sharp with a nice bokeh.

While the DA70 is compact and sharp, the FA77 has the edge in bokeh due to the wider maximum aperture and slightly longer focal length. That maximum aperture is definitely an advantage for low light shooting.

You can read some history about Pentax K mount here:
http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/technology/K-mount/K.html Basically K lenses came slightly earlier, then M lenses came in. But in quite a long time both type of lenses were made in the same time (for different camera bodies)

As creampuff said above, FA77 has faster aperture of F1.9, and it's very usable not like some other fast lenses. The DA70/2.4 is more or less an F2.8 lens when compared against FA77 (both lenses set at F2.4, the images from FA77 are brighter). A F2.8 lens can never be used at F1.9
But if you don't need that extra speed, and/or if you prefer smaller size, DA70 is the way to go. Both lenses are excellent performers, I'm sure most users would be more than satisfied w/ either one. k |

Only have the 70, and love love love it.
Never touched the 77, so can't comment on it. (My other primes are the FA50 and DA21, by the way, if my experience with primes is anything to go by.)

Somehow leaning towards the FA77 now. It's really a tough fight. I guess the extra $300 premium of the FA over the DA goes to the "magic" of the lens. I wanna experience that "magic". haha.
