Greetings,
I have owned the P9 for a year plus. Not 92 but feature wise they are quite similar, the major downpoint with this camera (apart from the memory sticks) is that it does not have any manual modes, or apeture/shutter priority. So when i'm doing stuff like taking fast moving objects (rc cars) they usually blur out, even with panning.

That said, it takes excellent stills in broad daylight, and at night if the subject doesn't move, the flash + assist lamp is excellent too!

Also, the ladies so much prefer cams like the P9, P8 P10, to the 717s. Compactness, over functionality =)

These are some shots using the P9.... i'm sure the P92 will give the same amt of quality. When shooting the cars though, they blur out - I couldn't do stuff like increase the shutter speed and open the apeture etc. The P9 seems to try to obtain maximum depth of field by using as small an apeture as possible with its AE modes.

You mentioned snap around for fun, that's what I wanted when I got the P9, and it has served me well, and it is STILL serving me, 'cause a larger camera like the 717 G3 5700 etc. is definitely not pocketable. Whereas my P9 I carry it everywhere in my shirt pocket.. Plus my P9 is only 4Mpx, with a 32MB stick I get roughly 20 odd shots, enough for day to day usage.

If you believe you want to/will go deeper into photography, consider the V1 or 717 models from sony, else Canon and Nikon have other models around the same price as the P92 with better manual modes....

Also, mpx means nothing to me... on paper (i.e. 3r and 4r) the 3.2mpx versus 5mpx I honestly can't tell. Probably my eyes. Bigger size (A0 etc.) then probably the megapixels will matter. Plus, a 5mpx camera lik the 717 w/128mb memory stick can only take 51 shots with a full 5 megapixel frame....

I'm not into serious photography either! I use my camera as a tool to log my activities! Either ways, if you are considering the ixus, you may wanna post in the cannon forum to ask opinoins there? Because it seems like next to no point and shoot people in these forums...

I still using my P&S Sony F55E as a "fun" camera leh.. u can't beat 280 2.1mp shots on a 128MB memorystick..
And it still takes great pictures 3 years down the road..

This is one of my favourites from it:
