SONY W300 versus W170

Any users have compared the picture quality of the W170 versus the highly praised W300? The W170 comes with a lower resolution (10MP is really enough) and a wide angle lens (28mm equiv.). But on checking the SONY website, I notice that the W170 uses a 1/2.3" sensor while the W300 uses a 1/1.7" sensor... the W170's sensor is very much smaller... will the W170's low light performance be similar to that of the W300 (which is highly impressive)? I'm considering between the two actually... the W170 is of course much cheaper at $599 while the W300 costs $799... Steve's digicam reported some noise in shadow areas even in daylight... anyone has any experience with these two cameras? Can post pictures even better!

I suggest ordering a W300 from amazon instead. It's about 450 SGD, plus about 70 SGD shipping plus GST through vPost.

Wow! That's a good deal... no warranty lar... like that buy from HK more worth while... but I like the 28mm of the W170... very handy for casual group shots...

I think I might pop by Wisma Atria tomorrow to do a test on the two cameras... hopefully the SSC has these two models for testing...

Hi, anyone ordered a Sony digital compact through Amazon/Vpost before?
Is there warranty with this purchase, and how do I estimate the shipment weight? (no idea how heavy the camera box is)

i was trying to go through the entire click-and-payment process but couldnt find an indication of the weight. Will they only tell you after you've entered your credit card details?

i'm trying to find the package weight to calculate the shipping costs.

Don't go through VPOST if you can ship direct from Amazon... the VPOST charges are higher than that from Amazon especially if there isn't free shipping within the USA.

Yeah, saw it a few times on the net... so I whacked him there on Amazon...

Anyway I checked the W300 price on HK SONY... it's HK$2,999.... about S$520... lao nuah already... saliva dripping... must find some buddy to help me buy one leh... a bit put off by the W170 low light quality... although the 28mm is good...
