Default Panasonic Prosumers - or which of another brand prosumer would you reccomend?

    Hello,

I know I've got this other thread running but I decided to start a new one, as this is another topic.

I'm looking for a new camera and in the beginning I was determined to buy a dSLR. But now I started to consider a Prosumer, too. My father "earns" a kind of points with can be used as money to buy Panasonic products, so I could use his points to buy a panasonic prosumer.

What do you think Prosumers in general? Are they good compared to other brands or would you reccomeof Panasonic nd to stick to another brand?
If it's worth I would not mind to use my normal money instead of my fathers points. If Panasonic is good, which camera do you think is the best?

I am searching for a camera for my India trip, so I'm looking for a handy camera with good picture quality, even strong in suboptimal light and good at makrolike pictures, too. A hyperextremebig zoom is not important to me, of course I should be able to zoom but it doesn't have to be 18x. I think I will photograph a little bit of "everything", but especially people, landscapes and so on.

    Thank you for your help!

    many regards,

    Salome

    Hi,

I like prosumers, even though I use a DSLR. I'd love to have the G9, as I'd probably have it with me all the time.

However, I think the image quality of prosumers is not much better than normal PnS cameras. What you're paying is for the bells and whistles, like a big zoom lens, manual controls and maybe RAW capture.

Prosumers are great for travel though, to cover the focal length using a DSLR, you'd have to carry a big bag of lenses.

As for Panasonic, I think they make good cameras and they have Leica badge on their products, so can't be bad

I didn't have a good experience using panasonic prosumers. In terms of build quality, image quality and available functions, cameras from other manufacturers will easily beat models from panasonic.

Companies that don't specialise - those that produce a little of 'everything' tend not to give good stuffs in whatever they make. To me, panasonic seems to use style and design to woo customers, rather than using image quality.

If you are keen on 18x zoom, there's Nikon P80. Other options would be from olympus and canon.

    1) TS is from Europe, not Singapore, so information about Ang Mo Kio prices is not too relevant for him.

    2) It's "lens", not "len". Plural = "lenses"

prosumers are great photographic tools. Gives you the DSLR look and feel (sort of) without the high prices. BUT now that entry-level DSLRs are not much more expensive, it is worth considering just jumping into the DSLR world if you're quite serious about a photographic hobby.

    * i owned a Panasonic FZ-10, but sold it off and got a Nikon D80.

Panasonic prosumers are pretty good, you can consider the Fujifilm & Sony for more selections too.

Today I had a closer look at several Prosumer reviews and I think I like the Panasonic ones. Especially the FX50 catched my eye.

I'm asking myself if there will soon be a newer camera from Panasonic that will be quite like this, as the fx50 is already quite old? Does anybody know that when panasonic will release anything new?

    Thanx!!

It will start to get expensive once you start collecting lenses. It's not easy to get the shots you want with just the kit lens.

I am a user of the Panasonic FZ30. Pretty happy with it.

The range of the optical zoom really allows you to have many composition options in one neat package.

See my recent travel shots to Paris, Redang (Malaysia), taken with this camera, all after post processing of course.

You could also get a second-hand Sony R1.

    i'm using a FZ5.
for pana pro-consumers, lower mp means you can use more range of iso from 80 to 200.
but FZ18 got better noise reduction program no as compared to the FZ8.
can look for the iso difference over in dcresource.com

FZ50 for me! personally I feel that it's a good all-round camera. regarding with the next line of Pannys, there's no rumours about it thus far though.

Do give Fuji S100fs a try - if you dun mind the weight and slightly heavier pricetag.

canon S5IS is worth considering too
