Currently being hit by LBA to get one of the lens above. Judging from the prices in the US, it is pretty similar with the Pentax being slightly more expensive.
Pentax price: http://www.amazon.com/Pentax-21760-P...5073664&sr=1-8 Sigma Price :http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-100-300m...5073664&sr=1-1 Which one would you guys go for ? |

Unless u need zoom, I suggest DA* 300mm F4. Reason being prime lens tends to be sharper. If u need zoom and can wait, I suggest u wait for DA* 60-250mm F4.

Photozone has shown the Sigma 100-300 to be one of the best Sigma zoom. If not for my lingering suspicion that the EX coating don't last, I would have ordered one.
So I commited to the DA* instead. I think that the Pentax lens will retain its resale value better.

DA*300 got my vote too. It's alot smaller and easier to carry around. The Sigma 100-300/4 is pretty big and heavy:
Sigma 100-300: 92.4x226.5mm, 1440g, 82mm filter size Pentax DA*300: 83x184mm, 1070g, 77mm filter size I myself still prefer the smaller and lighter FA/F 300/4.5 though Pentax F*300/4.5: 84x160mm, 880g, 67mm filter size |

it's a little sad that the DA 300 didn't review as well as the 200/2.8.
And - how coincidental - I noticed the sigma 100-300 today too! Interestingly, it has HSM. |

Cooler LBA but hottest discussion between Pentax 300mm vs Sigma 100-300mm...
Pentax sound better choice but sigma could be best choice because if buy tele-convertor, that will extend more zoom "Increases the focal length by the power of 1.4" More chance for me to look closely at bikini gals far away from tower in Palawaseri in Sentosa if i buy this sigma one day ![]() |

Thanks all for your valuable feedbacks.
One of the main reason why I need to get a lens in this range is that I need it to take field sports action shots. Normally a 300mm or more is necessary if shooting from the sideline. |

![]() Ok I got mixed up with the FA*. The F* does have a tripod mount but the FA* doesn't.Last edited by art2d2; 4th July 2008 at 11:24 AM. |

For field sports action shots, personally I find the Sigma 100-300 F/4 more suitable. Imagine to be able to frame a player further away one moment and the next swivel around to capture a decisive moment of another player feet away from you with the zoom.
