Default BBCode Generator for Flickr users

If you're like me who likes to upload photos to Flickr, and then post them onto forum boards, this is for you.

This Firefox plugin will generate the BBCode for your Flickr photo. Clubsnap uses BBCode, like most forums. Below's what you'll achieve.

    1. You'll need to have Firefox web browser.

    2. After installing Firefox, visit Greasemonkey plugin to install Greasemonkey.
Greasemonkey is needed to install the BBCode generator.

    3. Visit userscripts.org to look for a "Install this script" button. Click on it.

    4. Greasemonkey will install the script necessary to generate the BBCode.

    5. From your Firefox menu bar, go to Tools->Greasemonkey->Manage User Scripts...

Under included pages, add this underlined text http://*flickr.com/photos/*/*/sizes/*/

    ---

Next time you visit your Flickr photo page where all your photos are shown in different sizes, you'll get a form box with the BBCode ready for you to copy.

Hi, I have followed your method. But could not find the form box with the BBCode ready.

    Hi Henessy,

Did you log in to your Flickr account?
The form box is only for personal photos and doesn't appear when viewing other people's photo.

I just tried the same method on my other computer and it works also.

Under Manager User Scripts, did you see "Flickr BBCode Generator" on the left side of the dialog box?

I realised that this Flickr BBCode Generator Greasemonkey script produces BBCode
to show (img) and hyperlink (url) the image at the same time.

I would prefer to show only the image in the forums without the hyperlink BBCode.
I did some checking and there is a way to modify the Javascript codes.

Search for this sub folder called "gm_scripts". (eg use Explorer to search)

In this folder, look for this file called "flickr_bbcode_generator.user.js".

Using notepad or any ASCII text editor (no WinWord), open the file and
    change this line:

    newTextArea.value='[ url=' + photoPageLink + '][img]'+ imageLink +'[/img][/url]';

    to

    newTextArea.value='[img]'+ imageLink +'[/img]';

    Save the file.

You should see the change when you visit the Flickr "All sizes" web page.

    It worked for me perfectly.

Disclaimer: modify this at your own risk.
If not sure about it, please do not attempt it.

    Thank you.

Yes, you can. That is the conventional method.

After you have copied the image URL from Flickr, you then go to the CS forum message box, click on to paste the URL into the dialog.

    Alternative method (by hand):
In CS message box, type "[ img ]", paste Flickr URL, type "[ /img ]".

But with the BBCode Flickr Generator, you copy the Flickr image URL with the BBCode (img) embedded from the Flickr (All Sizes) web page. So, when you paste it to the CS forum message, you have everything ready for use. Basically, a two step procedure, fast and clean.

The main goal of the BBCode Generator is to link to the Flickr page.

If not, then just the conventional right click "Copy image location" will do.
