Default National Geographic - nudibranchs

I was super intrigued with this issue of Nat Geo's sea slugs pictures...

I did not think too much about it, until I flipped to the back few pages where they often show how the shot was done. Be it ants or bugs on glass it has always been an eye opener and of course a point of discussion of technique and photo ethics

Well I dont know if everyone agrees with this "underwater studio" for these shots but it is very interesting esp for the strobist in all of us.

Hi Moos Blue,
Thanks for sharing indeed very very interesting & the shots are superb. If this was done by a local photographer and not David himself of NGC.....sure kena fire all round by the divers......set-up shots, harm the animals...etc etc.
I think all ths Nudis look like very delicious Shushi.

hahaha did i open up a can of worms? pun not intended...

but ya that was what i was thinking too am very sure taking the animal and even if it's just placing it on the white platform, but its sure to attract flak out there from some people. NatGeo seems to do that from time to time, to "get the shot" tho...

anyway... i've added a video link! =)

ya they are cute and beautiful... i'm not so sure about sushi. hahaa sakae got sashimi buffet hahaha

Great sharing.

First I would think it's creativity at the utmost to shoot the creatures this way DD did !!

Touching the nudis? Well, how many fellow uw photographers can swear they never ever touched any underwater critters in the photographing process?

May be it'll be fun to set up such a stage for whale shark shooting

I've not.. Perhaps that's why my pics never got onto a magazine.
