Default Headache ah! Sony V1 or Canon G5??

    Hi ppl

I've just sold away my Sony F707 because I'm pretty sick of its huge size, despite its fantastic photos. I would like to turn to small and compact 5mp cameras for a change.
I've narrowed to Sony V1 and Canon G5, and I really can't decide, so hopefully users of these 2 cams can advise me.

    I like Sony V1 because:
    1. really small and compact
    2. fast focus
    3. 640x480 unlimited video

    But:
    1. image colour is rather dull compared to G5
    2. small and fixed LCD screen
    3. pop-up flash on the left blocks hand
    4 lousy battery life
    5. sony batteries, flash etc cost more

    I like Canon G5:
    1. good colours
    2. flip-out LCD! ( missed my swivel F707 ...)
    3. fantastic battery life

    But:
    1. CA very very bad
    2. viewfinder partially blocked by lens barrel
    3. using flash at wide angle will cause vignetting at bottom left because of lens barrel
    3. bigger/heavier than V1

    I'm really really in a dilemma...sighz

if you don't need external flash support and manual control, you could consider the Pentax Optio S or Casio EX-Z3 (3MP cameras which are good enouh for 8R prints).

    Default My Thoughts.....

    Hiee...

Based on needs and its direct effect to your photographs....

I like Sony V1 because (PROS):
    1. really small and compact - (Personal preference-Good) .....advantage of smaller...easier to carry around=higher chance to taking it along everywhere you go...hence taking more photos.
    2. fast focus - (Photo Essential-Good) for fast once in a lifetime time shots.
    3. 640x480 unlimited video - (Personal preference-Good)

    But(CONS):
    1. image colour is rather dull compared to G5 - Have you tried it out yourself?????

    2. small and fixed LCD screen - (Personal preference-Bad)
    3. pop-up flash on the left blocks hand - (Personal preference-Bad)
    4 lousy battery life - (Photo Essential-Bad)
    5. sony batteries, flash etc cost more - (Personal preference-Bad)

    I like Canon G5 (PROS):
    1. good colours - Have you tried it out yourself?????

    2. flip-out LCD! ( missed my swivel F707 ...) - (Photo Essential -Good) - for unique compositions
    3. fantastic battery life - (Photo Essential-Good)

    But (CONS):
    1. CA very very bad - (Personal preference) - Statistically not proven
    2. viewfinder partially blocked by lens barrel - (Personal preference-Bad)
    3. using flash at wide angle will cause vignetting at bottom left - because of lens barrel - (Photo Essential- Bad)
    3. bigger/heavier than V1 - (Personal preference-Bad)

    ------------ Omitting Personal Preference ----------------

    I like Sony V1 because (PROS): 1
    1. fast focus - (Photo Essential-Good) for fast once in a lifetime

    (CONS) : 1
    1.lousy battery life - (Photo Essential-Bad)

    I like Canon G5 (PROS): 2
    2. flip-out LCD! ( missed my swivel F707 ...) - (Photo Essential -Good) - for unique compositions
    3. fantastic battery life - (Photo Essential-Good)

    But (CONS): 1

    1. using flash at wide angle will cause vignetting at bottom left - because of lens barrel - (Photo Essential- Bad)

    --------------------------------------------------------------
Comparing the PROS and CONS........Looks like the G2 is the clear choice.....

    Based on PHOTOGRAPHIC ESSENTIALS.....

I say go for the V1 because of its size. The G5 is not much smaller than the 707 after you add on the lens adapter. You're more likely to bring the V1 out more often, and thus take more pictures.

well sony v1 image quality is almost on par with canon g5.......if considering the weight and size factor, sony v1 overall package wins slightly over g5......
