Numbers in viewfinder and LCD panel when half depressed

when i look thru the viewfinder or at the LCD panel, the bottom right corner of it is alway displaying the number of shots..but when i half depress the button on my K10D, that numer change to something else...sometimes it 33 or 37 or 39....anyone knows what number is this?

Number of shots left in your continuous buffer.

Can be set in custom options menu
