Hi,
I was told by MS and Alan photo that we couldn't use 3rd party batt on Cybershot Sony camera. Is it true? I intend to buy one batt for my Sony H10 so would like to hear from you who is using the 3rd party battery. Pls share your experience. Thanks |

IMHO, and based on personal experience, 3rd party batts are no good.

Sony uses a lot of seriously great technology in their Infolitium batts to ensure that you get an accurate reading of the remeining battery life, and that the charger is shut off when the batt is full. Third-party batts don't have this technology.

Simply put, they just don't last as long.
In fact, despite a better spec listing (higher mAh, made-in-Japan, etc), many of these batts, including the "better" brands like Camera Devices, don't even last half as long as the originals. Of course, there will be people who have had good experiences with 3rd party batts, but my feel is that investing in non-original brands is really a hit-or-miss affair. When I load the original Sony batts, I get one thing that 3rd party batts can't provide - confidence.

Well said bro. I totally agree.
I had bad experiences using 3rd party batteries too. In the end I wasted more money and not to mention the hassle and stress when using 3rd party batteries.

I myself worry about the 3rd party battery quality, so I think I should purchase a original one. I did a quick search on google, if we purchase online, it's only about 51$. Do you know where have lower price ?

Well, when your batt is running out, and you're in the middle of an event/wedding, etc, you must be sure that your next batt pack will keep on going.
When I had the Alpha100, in addition to the original Sony batt, I had FOUR third party packs (2x DigiPower, 2x Camera Devices). When my original Sony batt ran out of juice after 3/4 of the day, I thought no prob, still have 4 batt. Turns out that each of the batt couldn't last more than 1hr of shooting, and all have been charged just the night before. Very nerve-wrecking towards the end of the event. Also when I bought the Camera Devices batt, one of the batts was actually faulty to begin with. And another DigiPower one completely died after 6 months. This scenario is practically the same with my two other digi compacts (using diff batt types). You can have a great camera with a kickass 300 f/2.8 lens and a hi-spec ExtremeIV CF card, etc, but all is completely useless if you got a wonky batt. I used to be sceptical about people who say "must buy originals only", but now I've learnt to appreciate the wisdom in their opinions.

I have 6 NP-400s for my 7D. 3 are original Minoltas, 3 are Camera Devices batteries... the Minolta original last almost 2x as long. In fact I pair my first Minolta battery with the first Camera devices battery as one set cos I use the vertical grip all the time. This is the oldest set and it's juice is a lot more than the Camera Devices pair of batteries even though the 3rd party pair is about 1 year newer... the mixed pair is always boosted by the original Minolta... so in the end, I just bit the bullet and bought originals for my 3rd pair of NP-400...

Scared if blow or even over heated your camera so better use original product.
Long lasting and more reliable (can shoot more pictures). I love SONY I bought at $80 ler.. Purchase on-line is taking a risk (exposing your credit card and also some times may not receive as what happen to my friend). I think they are using USD currency.

actually no point spending on 3rd party battery when the original batts do live up to it's stated shooting life and at most cost you 90 bucks
