Just bought a Nikon D40x (body only) and is new to DSLR. Any recommendation which lens would be good to start with?

bought it second hand and it came without the kit so wondering what would be a good lens to invest in. I will be using it when I travel to snap sceneries.

well you could go with an af-s 18-55mm vr or the af-s 18-70mm, depending on which range suits you better.
the a/m 2 lens are still cheaper as compared to the other 3rd party f2.8 lens. |

18-200mm VR would be good since you will be traveling.

What is you buget ?
About $250 - AFS 18-70 ( best value for money ) $250 - $300 - AFS 18-135 (Much better range, but plastic mount) Of course, if you have $800 - $1000 to burn, by all means get the AFS 18-200 VR mighty jack of all trade lens. ![]()

I reckon there are 3main things to consider.
1) Budget 2) Focal length range 3) MF or AF At specific focal length ranges, there are usually a couple of differently priced lens to choose from. That's where your budget comes into cosideration. Another thing to take note, that if you want a lens fitted onto your D40x to AF, the lens must have an internal motor. For Nikon lenses, it is represented by AF-S / SWM. Sigma labels it as HSM etc. Other than those lenses, you will have to use Manual Focus because your D40x body has got no mechanical focus drive pin.

depends on your budget and whether you mind to change lens or not.
Right now i have 18-200 and 50/f1.8 I wish to have a fisheye and a f2.8 lens.

yea, it really depends on yr budget
![]() most ppl i know start with the kit lens then buy a 55-200VR This combination isn't half bad! But if you can afford it, forget the 2 lens and just buy a 18-200 VR! |
