Default Reasons to upgrade to a K20D from a K100D

negatives:

The only negatives I can think off are that your flashes won't use the same batteries any longer, and that the K20 is larger (marginally) and heavier (noticeably, especially as more time passes).

Stuff which improved which I noticed:

1. SDM support
2. larger viewfinder
3. live view
4. no degradation in high ISO performance (Although I wouldn't say there has been a noticeable improvement either. Perhaps a marginal improvement)
5. dust removal
6. improvement in SR (a little)
7. faster focussing (eh. very slightly on the 16-50, serious improvement for a 50/1.4)
8. move responsive camera (after taking a shot in raw, no waits. faster clearing of buffer, faster changing between pictures, zooming)
9. more battery life (even compared to eneloops/imedions)
10. larger screen.
11. ISO 100
12. much better control - everything except white balance can be controlled with a dedicated button/dial, mostly without even removing eye from VF (i.e. lots more buttons)
13. custom option to change white balance to flash automatically when a flash is selected
14. wireless control of flashes (AFAIK: haven't used this)
15. weathersealing, (slightly) more solid feel.
16. status display backlighting
17. fun new "software" functions: multiple exposure, intervalometer, catch focus.
18. 20fps reduced megapixel burst mode and larger buffer for normal 3fps burst mode.
19. quieter shutter

Stuff which was pointed out to me

20. Availability of 1st party vertical/battery grip
21. Front/backfocus correction.
22. [omitted]
23. Replaceable focus screens
24. Flash sync socket
25. Color adjustability of the LCD
26. Ability to save the digital preview (though Iv not needed to do this yet)
27. Ability to control the Cam via Computer
28. Two places set aside for custom white balance (great for IR)
29. 17 frame buffer (RAW) I hated the K100's 3 frame limit, missed so many shots...

to be honest, i only care about the iso100, and weather sealing and quieter shutter..

the rest are bonuses..

now i feel very poor

fengwei has a very interesting philosophy on this.. he says you are paying money to sleep better..

i couldn't agree more.

Congrats on your final upgrade...you really LOVE your K20D!
BTW, for your info, I inserted a set of Energizer Lithium batteries into my K200D and after 1200 shots (mostly autofocus with a sprinkle of flash shots), the battery status still indicates as full! Will continue to monitor and see how long it lasts. Have not changed batteries since I got the camera.

Must... resist....

Reasons NOT to upgrade to a K20D from a K100D
1. You'll be left with a lot of spare rechargeable AA batteries.
2. Need to buy a larger bag and carry more weight.
3. Temptation to buy SDM lenses.
4. ..... can't think of anymore good ones, the rest are all lame!

I think I understand what fengwei means by paying money to sleep better....

I'm not happy with with K20D for these main reasons;

1. Useless Liveview, I was looking forward to LV cause it'll help in extreme macros like what I did with prosumers. But since it's not steamless nor do magnification, it doesn't help. Seems like a gimmicks.
2. P-TTL still not as reliable as most hope for yet.

Edit:
But then K100D WB mode seems insufficient for my photography. Sigh.

Haiz.... resistance is futile now the poison is not strong enough... once more and more K20D users come attack you, you will be vulnerable

lol K20D had not really been on my must have list. So it's not a want for me, but now it'll be a need if I wanna stay with Pentax. I still need to figure out which lens to use with it

actually even with LV, i thought LV is not really that useful unless got articulating screen, which brings with it other problems..

i don't really see LV as a plus point.. but then again my macro experience is limited.. also only do 1:2, the dof not so jialat.

It helps. You can tel what's in focus even without magnification. I tend to take 1:1 macros with my 35/2.8 by putting the camera in manual, turning to closest focus distance, then moving towards the target wiht live view. Gotta hold it steady, but it can be fine.

I dunno if K20 will be sufficient!
