Hey guys,
Just got a Digieye lens pen frm ms color. Used e brush to get rid of some dust on my view finder...On closer inspection, many scratches which I have not noticed b4 appeared on e view finder glass exterior. Then, I realised that the brush is not entirely smooth...among the black "hairs", there is one , brown n hard twig like thingy hidden, and glued to the base like the other strands. I suspect that it's the culprit. But, I wasn't really using much strength. So guys, what should I do now? 1) Go to ms color replace e pen? 2) Go to NSC, act ignorant, and claim its a manufacturer fault? I know the scratched viewfinder isn't going to affect the pictures, but still, its an eyesore. Or have I done something wrong, and am not supposed to use e brush on e viewfinder? ![]()

While it's probably too late to say this, some things really just require some common sense. No offence to anyone intended here, but a lenspen is intended for a lens, and I'm sure when you blow out of your mouth, the air is not purely air. Common sense will tell you that saliva and whatever you might have eaten for dinner may also come out. Can you imagine blowing all that into your camera body with your mouth? |

I think you can bring the camera and pen to ms color and ask them to replace the pen and pay for your camera repair. Well... this is a cheap VF glass, what if you used it to dust your 70-200VR and scratches it?

Wait, TS, are you referring to the glass that you look through at the rear of the camera, or the focusing screen that you see inside the camera? |

got a quote over the phone few months ago from nsc, $45 w/o gst for replacement of my vf screen in the d40.
i use blower only no brushes for me cos i also damage a bit of the vf screen using a toothpick to remove 1 spot of dirt... learn my lesson already.Last edited by Simon_84; 25th June 2008 at 02:56 PM. |

Oh, so it's called a vf screen. Thanks for the info! $45? hmm, hope I can get them to do it free, or I'll just put up with the scratches. When you put your eye behind e viewfinder, it ain't that obvious. However, under e sun, n looking down at e viewfinder, u see a scratchy mess...which makes yur heart damn pain...

you can try to bluff your way out but i think by 1 look, the tech staff straight away can tell you damage your vf screen on your own record. or you can try to pm fatigue and ask him does he have a piece of vf screen for sale, he might be able to help you fix in the new screen as well and should be slightly cheaper. i can live with the slightly damaged screen but the dirt there is starting to get to me sometimes even though it does not affect the pics. dirt in the vf, better dont try to clean it cos only nsc can clean it by opening up the cam to do internal cleaning. gd luck then. The lens pen is mean for lens - now it scratches you VF, won't it scratch your lens? I don't find cleaning VF with lens pen unreasonable at all. |
